Brooklyn and Ginger, I think you both hit on reasons why this skirt isn't working. Both "bold pattern piece" and "girlie" resonated as things that feel stylistically wrong for me. Every time I wear this skirt, it makes me sad and nostalgic for a black linen a-line skirt I used to own. Someday, I'll find another one. And Brooklyn, I hear you on somehow being okay with the floral but not the dots. The difference between pretty and girlish, perhaps?
Joy, I have a weakness for plaid, too! I feel like it's a go-anywhere, do-anything pattern - punk, preppy, vintage. It does it all.
smittie - I really like the combination of a graphic tee with a patterned bottom too, and I'm going to keep experimenting with it, because there has to be a way to make it feel really "me." Plus, I have way too many graphic tees to just let them languish in a drawer.
Thank you, Angie! I have realized recently that, given my lifestyle, I really only need to dress to go out 3-4 days a week, and the other days I just need comfortable, sturdy, not-too-precious clothing for house cleaning and studio work. Three killer outfits a week is my new gold standard!
