WIW 2/27: black and white and red all over

I tried to copy Ornella's outfit from yesterday and realized that my striped shirt is in the wash.

I'm definitely learning a lot from starting to chronicle what I'm wearing, although I'm too tired to articulate any of it tonight.

Pretty dress and fun belt! Did your mother actually make it?

Did you try scrunching the sleeves of that jacket for a bit of structure? Sometimes they won't stay up, but when they do it can be interesting to see the effect.

Your legs look as fab in flats as in low heels, you lucky woman.

Nope, she didn't make it - it's yet another hand-me-down!

On the current list of epiphanies:
* a truly massive % of my wardrobe consists of things my mother got tired of;
* wearing lots of color is very much what defines my comfort zone;
* my baby face means I feel compelled to overdress for work

Aww, thanks! The shoes are wedges, so I'm getting a bonus there, but I'll still take the compliment.

Wow, wow, wow! You are really making fashion progress by leaps and bounds! The dress is fab on you, and with the jacket it's perfect for work! (Maybe try rolling the sleeves up to mid-forearm for a slightly more casual look -- that's where I like my jacket sleeves.)

You look gorgeous. The dress is a perfect fit and the jacket tops it beautifully. I would just push or roll or scrunch the sleeves up a little more though. Love the red belt

I l-o-v-e this The dress is so beautiful, the panels and flared skirt make it so flattering. And the red belt is a touch of unexpected.

I really like the black piece around the neckline. I think just using that as something to play with, there are so many combinations with this dress... black hose, black belt, some thing black layering shirt. Mixing and matching just those gives a number of stylings to enjoy.

And then there are other colours, red to begin with...

Love this! I love the pop of red, the cuffed the sleeves and the way the top of the dress appears to enhance assets.

@Ornella: I couldn't find quite the right layering shirt - most of mine have drapey necks - but it seemed like such a good idea!

Aww, Angie likes my outfit! That never fails to make my day!

@fuzzylogic: Nah, my mom's got great taste - I just hadn't realized how frequently I wear her stuff or how much of it I've ended up with over the years!

I definitely get taken for significantly younger than my age on the regular. Especially in casual clothes. I have been taken for a freshman at the university where I teach! Dressing a few steps past what's strictly necessary goes a long way in counteracting that impression, though.
