WIW 1/4: Saying goodbye to a friend

Today I went to the funeral for a friend and co-worker who passed away a few days ago. He was an Army veteran and all-around good guy, and I will miss the heck out of him. I wanted to be respectful but not too somber, so I chose a black dress with a white print.

Dress: Laundry
Black cardi: GAP
Black pumps: Madden Girl
Black satchel: Cole Haan

There were two Army guys there who did the folding-the-flag thing and played Taps on a bugle, and I just about lost it. Very moving. And it was also very moving to see the church full of friends and co-workers past and present.

*sigh*

RIP, Chuck. I'll miss you!

Considering the circumstances, you looked as good as possible without looking too good, if you know what I mean. What a totally appropriate outfit.

When I watch the photos and brief bios of soldiers who have recently died on duty on the PBS Newshour, I always want to cry.

I think you got this one just right. I too tend to wear black for these occasions but I've noticed many people wearing colors, even older people. And going very casual.

A very appropriate look and I love the curls in your hair. As for the flag folding and taps... every time I see this and the gun salure in movies it brings me to tears. It takes me back to that cold winter day when I was just 13 at Arlington National Cemetary saying my final goodbye to my father...
