WIW 14 01 30. A style help request...

This is what I wore yesterday. I'd love your honest, straight up feedback on this. Positive or negative, lay it on.

Given the awesome threads this week (which I've been avidly reading but have't had time to think and add to), in particular the one on how how you frame the question having influence on responses, I'm not going to say anything right now... but rather will see what you all say/think.

Hi Elizabeth,

You have a gorgeous smile!

I like the striped tee and the pants, but I'm not sure this hoodie is the best color topper to wear with them. It might look better if you scrunch the sleeves, and it could look cute with lots of other outfits. To my eye, it's just too much of a contrast, especially without any other white in the outfit.

It looks pre-YLF to me--OK, but not as fab as I have seen you pulling off more and more consistently.

Why? I'm not sure. It almost looks backwards, like the white should be inside and the darker colour in the topper; or maybe that there are too many unrelated colours going on without a unifying force.

On the other hand, I love that white hoodie, makes me look forward to summer and I'll bet you can rock it in lots of outfits.

I thought it was just me, but I see others have answered too...I think the white is kind of off. I love the vibrant green striped top and wish I was seeing more of it. Or at least a topper that didn't distract and take away from it.

And, I love your dramatic hair color! I know you weren't meaning to ask about hair, but that light patch is way cool. Is there a way to cut or style it so that it gets more focus? It would be cool to see more of that light patch down around your face, play up the drama more!

Lower contrast third piece - a medium contrast overall - to go with what looks like a low to medium contrast amongst your hair color, eye color, complexion?

Thanks ladies, this is helpful.

I defnitiely quite blah in this, even though I know it's a perfectly "fine" outfit. I think it's boring, pre-YLFish, as L'Abeille said (great observation!). This is the kind of thing I have worn as my FFBO for probably the last decade, and am trying to get away from. Judging that I did feel boring, I must be a succeeding!

I also think you are onto something with the white of the sweater standing out a bit too much. And not repeated anywhere. I hadn't thought of that.

Peri,thanks for the hair compliment! It's the funniest thing, I spent so long feeling so paranoid about my roots, now that I'm growing them out, I don't want it to happen quickly because I kinda like the two tone! I am due for a cut, so we'll see what happens... I think I'll probably keep this shape for one more cut before I go for the Big Chop.

You hair looks amazing! It's coming in beautifully.

But it may change the kinds of looks you wear. I think super high contrast may not look as good. The whites will still look fab, but maybe not with black as the other major piece? In any event, the hoodie will look great with faded denim.

Elizabeth, you give off a very Miranda Priestly/Meryl Streep/Devil Wears Prada vibe! Love your hair, beautiful face...and under the clothes, great bod.

The hoodie is okay, but not with this outfit, and a glam shoe would change things up. (I'm learning from Angie...it's all about the footwear!). Maybe a pointy toe flat or a pointy toe bootie with a modest heel if your feet aren't too fussy?

I think the texture and shape of the sweatshirt is not playing correctly with the visual texture of the stripes on the top. But everything fits you very well and can be mixed with other items.

Ok - if you're going to wear this hoodie with this outfit, I would unzip it - that would give you a much more vertical line, then I would pull the hem of the striped top down so that it hangs below the hoodie - that would soften the contrast between the hoodie and the pants. I would probably do a semi-tuck with the top - just a bit, right in the front. Scrunch the sleeves on the hoodie. Are your pants slacks or jeans? I can't really tell for sure from the pic, but it almost looks as though they are just a little too short? Also, get yourself a pair of FAB booties or shooties with this (I mean FAB!) - that will up the style quotient of this outfit.

My preference would be for you to ditch the white hoodie altogether with this outfit. I think that its length is in that "no-man's-land" area - too long to be cropped, but not long enough to draw the eye down (again, I think the outfit needs more of a vertical line.)

I cannot see the details of the necklace - is there any color in it? If not - I would trade it out for something with color in it - either something in the colors of your shirt - or a fun related color - like a soft shade of blue or green, or burgundy or purple!

I can't tell if your pants are jeans or not. But I can't say it works for me. I find the white very stark against the black pants and feel trainers would be better for shoes. This looks to me like a dash out and run and errand outfit, thus the trainers.

I learn a lot from these kind of posts. What I see if a perfectly put together outfit--nothing extraordinary but current and would meet my environmental norm. (I have quite a few of these kind of outfits.) Each piece looks like it fits you well--nothing looks dated either. I think the hoodie reads more sporty than the rest of the outfit and the high contrast makes it kind of a focal point. To answer you question, I think this looks good but would look great if you swapped out the bottoms for a denim pencil skirt, denim skinnies with boots or bootcuts--all in a medium or lighter wash. I love the light color jacket with your complexion and hair color. So pretty!
