I wear a lot of warm, dark purple-y shades, but I think I've somehow managed not to post anything featuring those colors yet. This week, though, I wore two eggplant-esque outfits in a row! Here they are, along with today's outfit, in which I wrestled with shoe-based styling angst.

Tuesday (1-2): I paired one of my favorite easy dresses with the boots you guys were kind enough to reassure me about. The earrings are black druzy studs by Melissa Joy Manning that I bought with birthday money this year after seeing them in a shop in Brooklyn during a weekend trip, then not being able to get them out of my mind for months.

Wednesday (3): I was excited to combine this new Gap sweater with the skirt because I thought the eggplant would go well with the bronzy tones in the pattern, but feel like the silhouette ended up sort of boxy and awkward. Wondering if maybe a scarf would have done a better job at breaking up that big, solid expanse of sweater than the necklace did? Or maybe I should stick to pairing my pencil skirts with cardigans or with tops with more detail/interest?

Thursday (4-5): I hadn't worn this charcoal dress with lace detail yet this fall, so I decided now was as good as anytime. Since the dress is already pretty streamlined and neutral, I had this idea about adding very simple black pieces, then breaking out interesting shoes. More specifically, these smoking slippers, which I haven't worn much at all and are too cute to just sit in my closet.

Great edgy-ish twist for a conservative outfit, right? Except that I felt really blah and dumpy wearing flat, high-vamped shoes with this outfit, especially since the rest of it turned out to be a little awkwardly severe-looking once it was combined. By that point, I was already running late, so I just switched out the shoes for animal print wedges to at least make my legs look a bit longer. I'm not crazy about this outfit even with the shoe switch, but points for trying to mix it up a little, right?

If you've made it through my rambling, thanks for reading! Any comments or suggestions welcome!
