WIW 11/15: Blogger Copycat Challenge, Day 4 - Vintage Style Struggle

When I saw this vintage dress in the vintage clothing store on Tuesday evening, it reminded me of this awesome look from Jessica Quirk, and I decided to call an audible and rotate it into my copycat challenge week. Even though it's not a very close copy, I felt like the bold print and banded waist, as well as the general vintage vibe, qualified it for the challenge. (Edited to add photo 4 to show details of the print!)

I had planned to wear it with full-on vintage bright colored accessories, but after trying every bright color of shoes, bags, and beads this morning (e.g. photo 3), I decided Jessica had it right, and went monochromatic with the shoes and jacket. But I couldn't resist adding the yellow bag!

Navy and white dress: vintage, I'm thinking 60s or 70s
Navy blazer: GAP
Navy pumps: Madden Girl
Yellow bag: B Makowsky
Silver necklace: Nordstrom Rack

Thanks for looking. Do you think this works, or is to too costumey even with the jacket? (And wouldn't you love to see Jessica rock my dress?)

Fun! I like seeing this shape on you for a change, Mary, and it's a bit ironic, given that pencil skirts are your signature business look, when you copy a blogger you put a twist on it by wearing an A line!

I can see why you were attracted to the dress and why it reminded you of hers, though. Love that close up.

I think you styled it really well. Simple is best, let the pattern do the talking. Oh, and the bag, of course!

Thank you, ladies! It's so funny, because this dress spoke to me so loudly! I think it's because I wore dresses just. like. this. as a little girl and young teen! It's polyester double knit and I am pretty sure it was home-sewn by an accomplished seamstress, even though there is a Neiman Marcus label. The label isn't in the spot where you'd expect it to be, it's sewn crooked, and there's no size label or union label, which I'd expect to see in a dress of this vintage. It's my theory that the seamstress put the store label in for fun!

The monochrome look is super! I think you could do color in the form of JUST shoes or blazer, if you kept the rest neutral. I can also seen this pretty vintage dress with all nude accessories. Also flats with a denim jacket for a sweeter casual day. (I was thiiiiiis close to buying that skirt when I first saw Jessica post it, it's incredible!)

I love the neutral look with just the pop of yellow. With the print the neutral route is much better. Great job and love the dress.

Love the monochromatic look in #2--you did it just right! The yellow is the perfect accent without going overboard. Great print, great dress find and great copycat look!

Picture 3 with the bring accessories lends a more vintage feel to the outfit. I prefer the way you have styled it in #2 with simple black shoes and a black jacket. Love the addition of the yellow bag. If you wanted to, you could add a high-waisted yellow belt, it may (or may not) work. Another way to add color would be Peggy Guggenheim-type colored oversized shades.

This dress is incredibly pretty and flattering. Much better than the inspiration photo (which took me awhile to figure out was a dress). I do like it with the green shoes, as well as the navy. But maybe too kicky for work.

That dress is a nifty little number and looks great on you! You have such a nice figure and you know how to flatter it so well. I like the monochromatic because that pattern is a diva! The yellow was an inspired touch that bookends your hair nicely - not the same shade but the same lightness.

I do love the red with it, so maybe a red clutch with the same navy shoes and jacket would be another way to dress this dress. I can also see it with a natural linen blazer and nude heels in warm weather.

I wore dresses like that too, a lot of times with pants! I am curious to see it with some polyester flares and platform wedges, but that could just be the crazy 70s girl inside me.

So funny about the label in the dress and there must be a story. I like #2 best but you might add the green shoes. It would also look good with a white jacket for spring.

Gorgeous dress. Because the dress is such a busy print I prefer the monochrome accessories. The bright bag is a great edition of color and since it is large it works well with the dress. The smaller bright accessories compete with the dress print too much for my eye.

I really like the graphic print of this dress with the punches of color you added. I am especially intrigued by the green shoes. Very NICE!
