WIW 10/8: With little birds

I thought I was going to stay out of the crop top trend, but I found this shirt at BR outlet a few weeks ago and have been waiting for it too cool off a little so I could wear it without melting. It may be a bit too long to call a crop top, but I can definitely say it can't be worn as a top by itself. I'm also excited that I can wear my cropped pants at least one more time before it gets too cold.

Bird top - Banana Republic Outlet
White button down - Banana Republic Outlet
Pants - Old Navy
Shoes - Frano Sarto

I think the slipper flats add something to the out outfit, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what. As always, I'd love to hear feedback on what I can do to make it look better or more ideas for my bird top.

love the layering here, i would have never thought to layer short sleeves like this, and i'm suprised at how well it works! i think the capped toe on the shoes really helps to give the outfit a more polished tailored look.

I had a similar "never thought I'd buy a crop top but now I have to have one" experience this week. Have you tried it with different shirts (colors, hem lengths, no collar? I tried about 7 black shirts before I found my favorite look. Ooh, try it with denim/chambray too.

Really like this on you, crisp and polished but also whimsically cute and tomboy. The shoes work well with the whole preppy with a twist look to my eye. I have some cropped tops that I wear with high-waisted tapered or skinny pants or high-waisted tube skirts, and with some other pants and skirts with a same colored camisole underneath so I never flash belly.

Great outfit! I love the short over short sleeve, too! The slipper flats are perfect with the cropped pants. There's a bit of preppy vibe that looks great, and your glasses echo that feeling.
I'd try the top with a cami under it, too.
You could wear the top with a high-waisted skirt, maybe also with a cami (tucked in), just for when you move around, if you want to avoid flashing skin. I think almost any silhouette of skirt would work--pencil, A-line, pleated/full.

Looks cute! I have several sweaters this length call them my "almost-cropped" tops Looks good layered, and as Firecracker said with the double short sleeves and buttoned up collar you've got a great preppy vibe. I like to wear my almost-cropped tops with wide leg trousers and skirts, or faux-tucked with flared jeans.

Thank for the ideas and compliments! I tried it with a light blue blue short sleeve top and it didn't have near the same pop as white did. I like the idea of chambray, though. And you're right, I bet the top would work with wide leg or flared pants pretty well.
