Thanks ladies! I must say I was quite surprised to hear that this reads as having a military vibe from so many of you, since I didn't feel that at all. But I can see the links. Military style is not currently an aspiration, so I suppose in the future I will have to give outfits featuring these pants an extra look-over. But as long as I don't feel it, if they come across as military-lite or militaryish-but-pretty-and-soft I will try not to worry about it
Maneera, hmm all of the pieces in this look are actually oversized. For some reason slouchiness always photographs as significantly less. Now I am curious if this outfit would read the same in person -- I certainly felt very slouchy in it!
Jaime and Elizabeth, yes I agree! The lengthening effect does rather seem like it shouldn't happen and it's definitely not just a camera trick; it felt that way in person too. Perhaps because all of the "long" pieces are at their shortest lengths to still be considered those long things, i.e. the tunic is short but still a tunic, and the boots juuuust barely qualify as mid-calf. I suspect that if I were taller I'd want the more conventional lengths of those things to achieve the same sort of balance. Also, the cognac and orange do bookend to degree.
Cheryle, thank you for your especially gracious comment.
Angie, woo for Genie Chic! I like that quite a lot. My sis said it looked very Link (from the Zelda video games), which I wholly take as a compliment -- I've been Link for several Halloweens in the past! ^^
