WIW 0702: Pattern Mixing, Oh My!

You would think that someone with a degree in graphic design AND who has worked in the field for many years would know her way around pattern mixing right? Hmm... Perhaps, but I never quite found the right patterns to mix... Until now.

This outfit makes me proud. It's one part tough UWP-ish, one part comfy chic, one part bombshell. I'm shameless in capitalizing on the bombshell qualities of the VC skirt. Yes, I can be RATE, but it doesn't mean I have to de-bombshell everything, right?

Comfort is high here. All breathable fabrics which make for a happy Katie. I can move in it (ok limited leg motion on the VC skirt but it streeeeeeeetches). No pinching, squishing or bunching.

Life is good.

ETA: I forgot to mention that I think I wore the scarf weird. My short-necked, short torso self isn't used to wearing them. This is an infinity scarf. Did I wear this appropriately?

I agree, your VC skirt definitely has bombshell qualities! I really like the more floral elements with the stripe - I don't think there's really a wrong way to wear a scarf?

Thank Lyn! I think deep down, despite all the RATE fluid waist-surrendering styles I've been wearing, there's still a bombshell there. I have another outfit in mind that's a bit more bombshell than this but we will save that for another time

And the scarf thing - yeahhhh... The scarf was border lining fussy but because it's an infinity scarf it stayed put. I can't do longer knotted styles and I never really worn my scarf infinity style before... :p love this floral print though! $8!!!!

So cute Katie! Perfect mix of bombshell with RATE. The floral scarf works IMO (I always kind of struggle with them too). I really like it with the stripes - and your shoes repeat the stripe pattern - very cool!

This is one of my favorites on you - everything works so well. The scarf looks fine to me, but I have similar problems with infinity scarves where two loops looks long and messy/fussy but three is too tight. If you figure out a solution, I'd love to hear it!

I'm a reluctant at best pattern mixer (high five from another graphic designer), but this is my kind of mix. It doesn't dominate the outfit, and the contrast of graphic stripe with floral is really easy on the eyes. You look great!

Nice! I think this pattern mix really works and I like the RATE bombshell combo.

Re: scarves. I have a similar problem with many infinity scarves because they just hang too low on my short torso. What works better for me is to get a square scarf (not too big), fold it in half to a triangle and knot the two ends together. Then wear like a bandanna/infinity hybrid. This tends to be shorter in front than a regular infinity (plus you can adjust it by tying it tighter or looser) and the point is like a v neck which is always flattering for a short neck.

Oh, I love this on you! I don't see much RATE tough, I see structure and some polish with the vest and perfectly-fitting top and skirt. Edginess and bombshell, definitely! That's a very pretty scarf.
