WIW- First day at work - YouLookFab Forum

I promised my mother (Parsley) that I would send her a photo of my outfit for my first day of work and thought I would take it one step further and get all of your feedback! She gave me the handbag, which is really the most fabulous part, as a "starting your grown up job" present. Thanks, mom.

I'm transitioning from graduate school to working at a big tech company. I was very concerned about looking professional only to discover that there is a wide range of professional wear. Almost all of my teammates were in jeans.

I bought new belts with every intention of becoming a belter and a tucker, but then my belting and tucking phobia came through, and I ended up opting for my comfort zone on the first day.

Any comments/feedback/suggestions welcome. Apologies for the wet hair and low image quality.

Have you tried the half-tuck and the faux-tuck? They provide a longer leg line while eliminating the horizontal line of a full on tuck. They are the best of both worlds plus will show off your new belts! Angie has a number of posts on the techniques.

Oh, this post is very special to me because my DD lurks here! I think your outfit is wonderful, not too much among a bunch of be-jeaned techies. But saying you're here to work. I love the way your foot skin bookends the white dots and your lovely face.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. My first day went very well but entering the world of 9-5 is certainly an adjustment.

DonnaF, I have experimented a bit with a half tuck but can't claim to have mastered it. I will make further attempts.

The comfort zone is a good place to start when it looks polished and fab like this! Black/white is a great way to begin --- it has graphic power, but is almost neutral. Love the pop of color in the bag!

I think that you look wonderful! It looks to me like you have hit just the right middle ground of not too ultra professional (could read uptight/stiff to new colleagues who are super casual) but also not too causal (which could read disrespectful to new bosses). You look approachable and also like you take your job seriously. And... You look beautiful and put together (with your lovely new handbag). This is a wonderful professional outfit and you are right to be comfortable for the first day - that's enough stress in and of itself let alone adding fussing with a belt if that's not something you're used to.

Love the polka dots, the fluid drape on the top and the red handbag for punching it up with a pop of color. You look gorgeous
