WIW- 90's Dad Jeans with a French Twist

After I bought these Levis red tag dad jeans in charcoal demin, I wondered about the best way for me to wear this new looser denim silhouette in order to suit my personal style and voila, this is what I came up with.

To me, these two looks have a bit a french vibe to them.

I cuffed the jeans to feature the patterned socks, threw on loafers, the tops were tucked and a belt added to cinch the waist a bit and refine the look.
I added a boxy, collared cardigan with the striped top for additional texture and pattern mixing.

Since I'm into casual, modern classics, this was my way of wearing them, but I'd like to know how you might style these dad jeans to suit your personal style ?

Very well done ! I don’t have any dad jeans - that I know of , lol- so no ideas from me . A boot would be great here too - a sleek Chelsea ( continuing on the French vibe ) or a combat / moto style .

I like the jeans! And like the outfit. I'd wear something similar (striped top and all) but probably pair with my plaid combat boots or chelsea boots outdoors.

You wear them well! They do not suit my body or my style so I leave them to others! I can’t wait for rises in jeans to lower back to a moderate/mid rise. As someone with a very short rise, most rises over 10” look all kinds of awkward on me. However I do like boyfriend cut jeans, and like wearing them with structured jackets in a variety of lengths, to offset the loose and casual vibe of the pants.

The cuffed jeans are a great way to showcase the socks! And wearing socks with loafers is soooooo now.....

The belt adds fab polish! The tucked shirt too. I like the structure these elements provide.

I love the way you styled these jeans. Adding a belt does so much for the overall look. I need to remember that. I am not sure what Dad's jeans are. They do look great on you.

Dee, I remember wearing the jeans you describe, but we didn't call them Dad jeans. I have always liked baggy jeans.

Style Fan, yes, they didn’t refer to them as “dad jeans” back in the 90’s but that’s what they’ve decided to call them these day, as they are similar to the jeans that middle aged men favoured back then (Think Jerry Seinfeld).

Both looks are really great as is. I’d just go for sneakers instead of loafers, and perhaps a graphic tee instead of the stripes, layering all three tops: tee, button shirt and sweater, and rolling up the sweater sleeves.

Another layering idea is to wear the striped top over the button shirt.

I love baggy jeans! They look great on you. Yes, maybe with chunkier footwear. I'd also try a thin v neck cardigan worn as a shirt, like in this link https://bananarepublicfactory......;tid=bfpl0 tucked in at the front. I love that look lately.

YLF with the loosely fitted cardigan - this gives me food for thought on the socks too!

I actually wore something similar for work yesterday - but instead of the cardi, I added a blazer (sorry for the terrible photo quality!)

I'm like you - still thinking up ways to wear this looser silhouette with a more 'classic' sense of style (mine are cotton trousers, rather than jeans, but still a similar issue lol). Will be watching the thread with interest for ideas!

I love your jeans style. Any outfit looks chic with dad jeans. I think it's great to wear a trench coat with sneakers or even boots.

Omg love! These are perfectly sized, just the right bagginess, I think that is what I struggle with re this style of Jean. These almost give off a 90s khaki pant vibe. I’ve been trying sneakers, which I don’t really love, pointed boots which I do find work, and pointed toe flats which have been hit or miss. I’ve never thought to try them cuffed, so thank you for that idea.

I love these looks! You did it! If you're asking how I would take this look and make it mine, I'm with Helena, I'd go with some hip sneakers.

I have a personal rule that the baggier the pants, the less athletic the sneakers need to be. So like, I only wear my "Dad sneakers" (that look like colorful 80s hiking/running shoes) with a slimmer pant, because they kind of dowd up my barrel-leg and wide-leg jeans. I am usually either in high tops or Adidas superstars for my wider legs.

Very nice styling, Dee! I’ve been wearing my jeans rolled once, but with a wide cuff. I can’t tell if your jeans are stiff enough to hold the cuff, or if there is much of a contrast on the reverse (though it’s not necessary.). Something to try…:-)
