WIW - what's not working?

Today felt like a plaid kind of day. And I was expecting a busy day, so I added the long gold necklace because it always ups the happiness factor. and the sweater because it was cold for me. But something isn't working here and I'm not sure what it is. I don't know if it's just the sweater or the sweater and necklace or what it is. Any thoughts?

Cute combo idea! Maybe what's bugging you is the slouch and length of the sweater. Maybe try a shorter more body con sweater or tuck and belt this one if it's not too bulky.

I was thinking the same thing as Carter. A slightly shorter or more fitted sweater and you have a hit. Great skirt.

Thanks Carter, Dianthus and Caro. Today made me realize I have a whole in wardrobe for a black or gray more fitted sweater.

Hm I like the slouchiness of the sweater with the skirt, but I see I am in the minority there. I would personally replace the necklace with a bib necklace. I'd also be inclined to swear a daintier shoe which might make the slouchy sweater look even more intentional.

EDIT: Agreeing with others below that if you pushed the sleeves up that would also help. Since you don't have hose, having your arms partially exposed will help things feel more seasonally sound. Plus it adds structure to the slouchy sweater.

I'm with Aida and like the sweater with the skirt. I'm wondering if you scrunched the sleeves a bit if it would give you a bit more structure to the sweater?

I also like the sweater with the skirt. I like the shoes too. I would either leave the necklace off or try one that fits in the small scoop of the neck. You could also try layering a button-down under.

I don't love the necklace with the sweater, or the sweater with the skirt & shoes. Fab from the waist down, though!

I am with Aida here. I would like to see a semituck for the sweater and a shorter necklace or none. But I love the skirt on you and I think it works with the sweater.

I like it! I would hike the sweater a bit higher to get more slouch and banded top vibe. The skirt is fab and I love the shoes.

I would push the sleeves of the sweater up, remove the necklace and add an oversize black clutch. Really, I think the skirt could be shorter depending on the occasion. This would also be fab with a black bootie.

My first thought was that the sweater was a little too long and not fitted enough at the waist. But it is interesting to see others' comments about keeping that as is and changing up shoes, sleeve length, and necklace style. I would love it if you could post pictures showing how each of the variations works out...I think it would be a real learning moment!

What shevia said. To me the only thing that's off about the outfit is the bare legs, because the shoes, skirt, and sweater seem to be about cooler temperatures. I love them all, and all together.

I agree with Shevia and Adelpha. Tights would be nice. I think the outfit is pretty nice as is.

Thanks for the ideas! One thing I forgot to mention is that I am wearing nude hose. I've started wearing hose daily since our weather turned cooler.

I love the idea if a button down under the sweater. I'll try that and let y'all know how it works.

Is the skirt flannel? If not, it looks like it in this picture. I think that's why it's calling for a heavier tight.

Love the color combo and the tartan print! I agree with @ dianthus A shorter top that is fitted should do the trick!

I think your top half is very covered while your bottom half is uncovered. That sometimes throws things off. My quickest fix, a pair of black hose. That would do. You could also replace the shoe for a knee high boot. That would balance the top half.

I think it's the necklace. I think it's too... pretty. I'd do a bracelet maybe (which is annoying for work, I know). Or maybe a cotton scarf.

Scrunch the sleeves for extra structure and take off the necklace. On trend outfit.

@Liz- it's just a tartan print, not flannel.

Thanks for the input on changing the hose color, scrunching the sleeves (or finding that perfect sweater) and changing necklaces everyone!
