My birthday finally came, and with it, a chance to bake! In #1 I am sporting my favorite apron, and in #2-3 my birthday suit of a turquoise tank and white clamdiggers. I felt very comfortable in this outfit, and it suited our 100+ heatwave. The earrings are blue wooden parrots.

I love baking and I usually look for something really unusual and over the top. This recipe made me very happy because it involved several trips to different groceries, and many hours in the kitchen (swoon). It's a Thai Green Curry Chocolate Cake. The rich cake contains fresh ginger and coconut milk, the ganache filling is flavored with bird chilis and lime leaves, and the frosting is buttercream with a tiny dash of green curry paste. Topped with peanuts and coconut, this cake is a tropical Asian fantasy.

True confession: I put too much green curry paste, and the frosting overpowered the cake with weirdness. So later we scraped it off and replaced with a cheap-o can of chocolate Duncan Hines and the resulting high-low mix was utter fabulousness. Please don't tell Gordon Ramsey or he'll have my hide.
