WIW - trying to save a wardrobe orphan

This is what I wore today. I really don't wear the skirt all that much, it's very highwaisted and only looks good if I wear an untucked top with it. Leaving the top untucked only works if the top is a bit roomy though, because the waistband is pleated and those show through otherwise. Maybe I need to sew those pleats down? The skirt also creases like mad... Should I try to save it?

Also wearing my YLF Secret Santa scarf! I love the color, it's so flattering and also goes with my watch strap.

(I haven't cut off the jeans yet, I just didn't have the time.)

This really works and you look good Astrid.
As for the skirt creasing, Im afraid only you know your crease pain threshhold! Can you be at peace with the crease? The colours all work nicely and the skirt shape is fine for you.

Thanks Diane. I also liked how this turned out. I agree, the skirt shape looks good on me and it's a great fit. I think I'll try to sew those pleats down. The creasing doesn't bother me that much, but I'd like it better if it wasn't an issue.

Yes, stitch the pleats and wear it a few times then you can see how much they bother you, or not as the case may be.

I think your outfit looks great! If you have tops to wear with the skirt, I would keep it since you like it and it looks good on you.

Diane, I think I'm going to do that. If the waist issue is fixed I just have to be at peace with the crease, it's fine otherwise.

Thanks Sara! I can wear both my cardigans and some other sweaters with it. Not many summer tops, but it's lined anyway - more of a skirt for fall and spring.

I really love the shape of that skirt on you, Astrid! Stitching down the pleats might not be a bad idea if you would like to wear it more often. I vote keep. It's a nice neutral!

I dunno about you; if things wrinkle like crazy it's out the door for me - if you can tolerate wrinkles though, I like the shape of this skirt on you

It looks great, I really like the olive color on you. If it really does wrinkle like crazy though, it might just be too much hassle.

You could try stitching down the pleats, but if it creases like crazy, I would probably still not wear it. I vote to pass it on

You've created a lovely and very "Astrid" outfit with this orphan. I think stitching down pleats is a good option, if the skirt brings you pleasure.

I've kept a few items that I wear seldom because they fill a hole, go with a favored piece, or because they have a high happiness factor. However, I've started believing that life is too short to wear garments I don't care for because I purchased them at one point.

Thanks everyone! I'll stitch the pleats down and give it another try, if it keeps annoying me I'll think about purging it.

Angie, I love the shorter hair too, but the cut annoys the heck out of me on the second day after washing. It really looks best when it's just washed, but I don't want to start washing my hair every day. So I'm going to keep it shorter but try to grow out and adjust until I have a more manageable cut.

Astrid, have you tried just dampening/wetting it the second day and scrunching it? My sister has wavy/curly hair and that is what she always does to refresh the curls the second day.

Thanks Ceit. I've always done that with my longer hair, but at the moment some of the strands are just too short for scrunching. They just stick out kind of randomly. The only thing to get a halfway decent look is to brush it all out, but of course that means there are no curls left.

Really, Astrid? That is annoying. How does the style work less well on the day after washing?

When the first stylist cut my hair she did cut some of the strands on top very short. I try to arrange those bits during drying so that they don't stick out so much and blend better with the longer layers. But when I sleep on it those strands tend to stick out in the morning and I can't get them to behave.

Have you tried dry shampoo?

No, I've never used it. I'm not sure what you're suggesting, do you think dry shampoo on the morning of the second day would help with the randomly sticking out strands? In general my scalp and hair is fine with a wash every other day. Anyway, it's not a big problem, I think this becomes a non-issue in two months when that short layer is a bit longer again.

HAve you tried wetting and scrunching your hair a bit on the second day? Also smoothing some hand cream into it, just a tiny bit can help. I know everyone's hair is different, I just thought I would mention it. Anyway I think the proportions of your outfit are super flattering. I really like it.
