wiw - track pants, sneakers, even a skull ...learning curve....

I was intrigued by Angie's sneakers and chain strap bag post yesterday - enough to test-drive it today. It took some fiddling with : at first I had on white sneakers, but it's still cold and wintery here and they looked a bit off. Went with black faux reptile instead. I actually forgot I had this bag, and it changed my plan for this outfit (I was going to work it around a red snake bag with a gold chain) - for the better, I think. The snake echoes the sneaker texture, and I liked the match between the chain on the bag and the wrap chain necklace. I was pleasantly surprised - ok, bloody shocked- to find my adidas track pants still fit (both Jill/DD/21 and I have them, and both were in her closet - unsurprisingly) still fit, so there was no way I was NOT going to wear them today

The bomber is a fun piece I picked up in the fall from one of my customers , and I love how it worked with this outfit. I liked what I had on, liked the idea of the chain bag a lot, and felt different and more interesting today while running errands. I will definitely be experimenting with this look in spring too - when I can wear my white sneakers. Thanks so much Angie!

Glad you're having fun experimenting with the look, Lisa. The track pants are super cute, and the chain handle bag is a fab juxtaposition with the sporty vibe of the outfit, AND great with the necklace. (VERY glad the pants fit, which I know makes you happy).

FWIW, I'd like to see a non-sporty jacket here - like a blazer or military coat. More luxe and less Athlesiure than a bomber. A light and less chunky pullover would be a pretty addition.

You made this look your own, and I'm thrilled you felt fab in the outfit.

I like the monochrome approach -- very sharp! I may need to get myself a dressy bag just to try out this formula.

Came back to say that you can try pearls with the look next time too. Picks up the white in the outfit, which btw, is a very 2017 look.

Angie - I really like the suggestion to switch out the coat . I actually have a mid-blue peacoat which I completely forgot about (this is the trouble with having more clothes than I can see in my closet - I forget what I have) and which would have worked perfectly here and lended the look more polish and sophistication. I'll try it with a blazer when it's warmer. This sweater is indeed chunkier than ideal, but it's what I have to work with. I don't have a particularly large sweater collection this winter. Your striped Boden would look great with my blue peacoat Maybe next winter! Pearls wouldn't feel like me in this situation - but I do appreciate the suggestion . Might be a little too preppy/classic for me

Lisap, YES, a peacoat sounds fab. A blazer requires warmer weather, doesn't it. And I'll wear pearls for you.

Gorgeous sweater. Fun look!

The skull thing is in flux these days. I doubt I would ever be without a piece in one form or another ( be it art, jewellery, textiles) , but I'm interested in taking my look in a new direction, one which renders wearing skull motifs a little young and RATE. Maybe young isn't quite the right word - I'm having trouble articulating my thoughts on it. It's a classic motif to me, but it can skew sexually ambiguous and tough-looking which is not quite the look I'm after. I did feel a little butch-looking today - which I KNOW is a eye-rolling judgmental term, but I'm talking about myself, so I figure I can use which ever words I have - with the skulls, the track pants, the bomber jacket etc. The athleisure look is a tightrope to walk. I really appreciated Angie's suggestion to go in another direction and gentrify the look. It's really valuable to learn these lessons !

I like it! I see what Angie is saying about the jacket, and I would probably feel he same way you did after wearing this for a day, but I still think this is a really subtly-fun look. The monochromatic color scheme keeps it sophisticated.

I have not yet worn my Skull cashmere sweater dress/tunic. Haven't really had the cold weather or proper occasion to wear it this winter. I almost wish I could somehow cut it off into a hip-length sweater to get more use out of it.

However, I did buy this subtle skull tee -- it arrived yesterday and I think it's a keeper! I'm not even the hugest skull fan, but I love the tone-on-tone nature of this one. It's not obvious as a skull until you look closely.

That's a great look for you and I think you've styled it perfectly. With dressier outerwear and loose trouser type pants you could have a less sporty and more elegant but still fresh alternative.
