WIW - to do some damage control (hair pictures)

Okay, here are some full length pics just as promised. You can see how the curls collapsed into each other after a day of walking around with it, clear sign that it's not cut right. It still looks okay head on, but you can see the wonky short layers the first stylist cut in the side view. she just cut the top layers of my hair short and left the rest long! It wasn't as obvious directly after washing this morning, but after some wind today the short layer just 'settled' on top of the rest. Mind you, this still looks much better than it did before!

So, what would you do with this? Just wait? How long and then do what? I think the only way to correct the bad layers right now would be to go really short.

I do not have curly hair, so no experience here, but I truly don't think it looks that bad. If you can stand it, I would wait 2 weeks and then have it trimmed if it is really not working out.

i think it looks great. but if i were you i would wait a few weeks, so how it grows out before making any major decisions.

Thanks kkards. I think that's a good idea. I thought going shorter still on the sides might help, but I don't want to make it worse.

I agree with the others - it really is not bad as it is and cutting it shorter is no guarantee for something better. Plus your hair may be in shock right now... waiting for a trim sounds about right.

Wow Astrid, I love the side view! It looks like a beautiful angled bob. The top layers don't look wrong to me at all. From the front it's a great length too - it frames your face beautifully. I guess I'm no help on what you can do to fix it :-).

I know the pains of curly hair... And my curls well are crazy... It kinda reacts to EVERYTHING.... And goes static... I would be elated if this is how my hair looked after an entire day of walking in wind

Wait for a few days... Going shorter can go either way... So it may not be the best decision right now...

Astrid, you have no idea the atrocities i was picturing! This is actually very nice. I would definitely wait and see if you get used to it over a few weeks. If you want a tighter more defined curl maybe you need a new product? But I like it as is. As it grows out the offending layers (which I don't see btw) should blend in better too.

Thanks Ramya! I wouldn't have gone shorter right now anyway, I'm not going to another stylist here right now. If I decide to trim it some more I would have asked my old stylist at home to do it. I'm home in two weeks time and have a few days before our big celebration.

Thanks Jules! I don't normally use product, but I guess I could try it. I agree that the layers should blend in more when it grows out.

Astrid, I think your hair looks lovely!
Sometimes it takes a little while to get used to a new style, particularly when it isn't exactly what you had in mind. But really, it looks very pretty on you!

My hunch is that you'll probably like it better as it gets just a bit longer, so I think cutting it even more would be just the opposite of what you should do.

I agree with the others that you ought to wait at least a couple of weeks before you do anything more.

You have the prettiest curls, and I think your new style is great for spring and summer- light and airy!

Astrid it isn't horrid at all! I would wait a bit for the blunt ends to soften out as they do after a cut. Perhaps you can try some products? My dd has very curly hair and I use an enhancer with hers sometimes.

I'm going to be absolutely no help because I think this cut is totally flattering, especially from the sides. Personally, I think it's harder to adjust to a different shape when you have curls. For years, I wore my curly hair straightened in a variety of shapes without much angst. Embracing my curls, however, was another story because every time my stylist played with the shape, I'd hate the new cut because the curls, in my opinion, went all wonky. Once my eye (and technique) adjusted, however, I'd start to love the change and couldn't image going back to the old shape. That's why I think a lot of curly-haired girls never update or change their hairstyle--the adjustment stage is just so much harder than with straight hair. I'd reserve judgement for a month or so before changing this cut.

Thanks Parsley. And you're right, I have to take time to get used to it. The last time I had hair that short was 2009 I think! And it's definitely great for spring and summer, I feel really light - it's a great feeling.

I think it looks really nice, and I imagine in a couple of weeks it's going to look even better - it seems like it always takes a little time for a haircut to "settle". It is a big change but I think it does suit you.

Gaylene, wise words! I've never straightened my hair, but I can't say I really embraced my curls either until a few years ago. Mostly I was just giving up and being stoic about looking like I had been dragged backwards through a hedge. And then I had my hair mostly longer with a few layers - easy to care for. Waiting a month and trying to work with the hair is good advice.

Thanks Texstyle. I agree, I definitely like the length on me and I think I will be very happy with it when it settles a bit and I'll be able to make some small adjustments. I also skyped with my parents again just now and my mum really liked it. She was the only one I know that saw me with the cut yesterday and she said there's no comparison.

Astrid, you are really a lovely lovely girl. Your locks - and you have locks with this cut - are just so from the front. I keep thinking of Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma and Jane Austen in general. I think I see what you mean about what happened in the first cut, but if you don't mention it and don't make people look really hard for it, the fix is more than good.

But squee! You are so cute in short hair!

I may be blind, but I see no problems. I love your hair. I adore the side view. Everything.

Astrid, this is so different than what you wore for a long time, it will take some getting used to. But I can't get enough of how fresh you look and I think this will elevate many outfits. Just my 2c.

I love this length on you! It reminds me of Tarzy's and Aida's, and they both wear it so well. Keep tweaking the cut until you get it exactly how you want it, but please don't fret in the meantime. You look fabulous!

Honestly, I have to say that I cannot see anything wrong with this haircut. It looks adorable on you and I think it will work well for summer, so I would just sit tight and let it grow on you. Now I am going to backtrack and read what previous posters said...I hope they agreed with me.
