WIW - The Vest Side, a few try ons and one without

I had just a few minutes today to try the vest on with some different tops. Wrinkled still from shipping.

Right away I decided I much prefer it over sleeveless, but that may just be the heat and the rush I was in to snap a few pics. I tried it with jeans and just one pair of black pants. I wanted to try it with my cream pants and my patterned white pants but no time today.

#3 is a graphic tee (inspired to try on by Diane G's outfit today) and then the same tee with the vest just for comparison. The last pics #6,7 are over a column of black.

I can't say I was feeling overly fashionable today - working at home and was in my comfy distressed faded jeans, but at least it was a good exercise to see how I might style this going forward.

What do you all think?

Great tops in 3 and 4. I'm partial to the vest with those rather than the black, but it's hard to say why. Maybe the contrast? Hope you get lots of wear out of your vest now that you have found it, pockets and all!

pil - I wondered where you had been so it's great to see you posting again. Thanks for your input!

crutcher - it's always hard (for me) to start styling a new item. I don't know why but I've held things for months before wearing them sometimes! I decided to go ahead and put this one at least through an initial try on just to make sure I should keep it.

Any suggestions for how to style it are appreciated!

I think these are a great style starting point for your vest. I like it with the lighter wash jeans and I think it looks great over the graphic tee (it is similar to mine isn't it :)). I like the animal print tee too in #5. I can also imagine the vest over a graphic tee with a lot of white in it and some knee length white shorts, maybe with cognac belt and sandals?

Diane - I have one other graphic tee but it's currently in the wash bin. I need to get some proper fitting white shorts - the ones I have are BF shorts and they are just too baggy to work with the vest I think. I would like some slim white denim shorts but have had trouble finding the right pair.

Great third piece! I think it's terrific with the sleeveless and slim bottoms. I could see this with a knit tube skirt as well or slim fitting shorts. Love the color. The style suits your casual but polished vibe!

Thanks kellygirl - I'm going to find some slim white shorts and try it with the denim ones I already have. I do have a pair of tan bermuda shorts that are slim but I'm not sure on the color pairing. Gray with tan seems sort of dull. Maybe white under the vest and white sneaks would be enough to brighten it up with some white jewelry.

I think white to brighten might work with the tan. Tan is just kind of preppy and might not jibe with the moto style. Never know until you try though!

I tried this vest and found it hard to style. It had too much fabric for me and I didn't love it enough to size down. But it looks great on you! I agree it looks best over a sleeveless top, and I do think it needs some white around it to brighten it up.

You kind of make me wish I had tried harder with it....

kellygirl- yes, I know what you mean about the tan/preppy thing. Maybe I'll try it on just to see. I have some slim denim bermudas on the way and I'll try those as well. I don't wear skirts so I have to style it with shorts/pants.

Aquamarine - I've found every vest I've ever tried hard to style! This is the first one that feels at least good and didn't look "off" when I put it on. But I'm still on the fence. I don't like to feel costumed and for me with such a casual style, even the slightest thing can make me feel that way.

I think it looks good in all these outfits. I prefer the sleeveless looks too but that might just be the weather. I think the outfit with the graphic tee is good just not as good as the sleeveless looks. That one might look better to me in the fall when the weather is cooling down.
