Carla, I would love to someday report that there are white jeans I “love”on me! Maybe? Someday? I love them on other people and always wish they translated a little better on me. It comes down to self-consciousness mostly about the lower half of my body, and conventional wisdom holds that white draws the eye. I know there is nothing *wrong* with how my body is made and there are times I just DGAF and want to wear whatever I please, but other times I feel more vulnerable. I’m working on that.
Mostly, I need to decide whether white jeans are what I want to wear for, as Angie says, this particular leg of my style journey. Do they translate to my style? Is it just that I want to “be able” to wear something, as though i were auditioning to be a member of a club? Because honestly I know any of us *can* wear anything we darn well want to. Trying on these jeans was another exercise in testing them out for my body and my style and considering whether I would enjoy them.
Jonesy, you have a more IT-ish build than I, so I’m a little surprised at your ambivalence about the white jeans you’ve had — they seem to work more naturally on your body type than mine. I’d be curious to know what makes you pass over your white jeans. I do think you tend to darker color palettes, as I do. In summer I tend to lighten and brighten up, but I don’t get many chances to wear jeans in summer because it’s so hot here, so I would need to consider whether white jeans are worth it for me as a fall-winter-spring thing. I think that is one reason why white shorts seem to work for me more than white jeans.
That said, I saw that Old Navy has a pair of supposed mid-rise boyfriend white jeans, for a ridiculously low price, so I’m gonna try them. If they work but I don’t feel compelled to wear them as jeans, I can cut them off into shorts!
