Hi there, sharing three outfits from this week and using Mainelady's happiness factor rating to evaluate themes which make me style-happy.

1. Red mariniere, skinnies and rainboots. I liked this simple outfit visually and was keen on some bright color. BUT by end of day I felt blah and sloppy. This happens often to me when I wear color. Not giving up on this top though. Perhaps it just needed something. Happiness factor - meh.
2. Black tneck, skinnies and snake belt. Felt great all day in this. Uber simple but the belt and boots made it feel finished. Happiness factor - high.
3. Pattern mix stripes and scarf. My no fail navy and white stripes with a scarf to add interest. Feel like I posted this combo recently now that I'm typing, sorry for the repeat! Happiness factor - high.

Color simplicity, finishing touches ... These are the common themes? I'll keep doing this and see what emerges. Thanks for looking!

Classic, polished and fabulous, Helena. Soooo interesting that you feel great wearing black and blah wearing colour. I'm the opposite.

Try a tonal scarf with the red tee. That might be the ticket. Same outfit formula as #3.

Great! I can totally relate to this. Try as I might with colour my happiness rating is always at is highest when I'm wearing pared down neutrals. We are who we are!

Aurore, I will try the outfit with a scarf.

Angie, yes! It's strange. However, I am being cautious about generalizing the issue to the color - since not ALL black feels great, but this particular sweater does, and not ALL color feels blah, but this particular combination does. I suspect part of the issue is that because I experience color in a big way, I then am less inclined to add other details to the outfit - so it could be a lack of completion that's making me feel sloppy. I'll try what you suggest; also thinking white jeans and a jean jacket might be something to try with the red.

Marilyn, indeed - although I've discovered that I do like to change things up, my home base will always be simple neutrals

Welcome to Team Happiness Factor! I think all your pics are great. My fave is #4. It is good that you are paying attention to how colors make you feel. I can understand what you said about not wanting to add much to it. Give a scarf, a simple pendant of a cuff bracelet a try with outfit #1 again and see if the happiness factor lasts longer. Well done!

I think wearing a bright color drains your emotional energy because you feel like you have to be on all day. I say wear it under a jacket and see how you feel. Love middle outfit and the peacoat is super duper!

I really feel your style, it resonates with me. Looking at #1, I see "too much red". Maybe a blazer or a cardigan, as Stevia suggested can help. Or a striped top with larger white stripes and thinner red stripes.
I like to add a very colorful scarf to a neutral outfit. May be you can try this if you want to add more color ?
