WIW - sneakers with skirt (bad idea?)

Okay here's what I wore today. I can't decide if this works or if it's just a mess.

I first wanted to wear this with my boots, but then it was so warm outside I thought I could go with shoes. I wanted to wear my oxfords, but when it started raining like mad I wore the sneakers instead. My feet just don't stay dry in the oxfords in this kind of weather. I first thought it worked out well because the sneakers fit with the colors and have that suede like texture, but I'm not so sure after seeing the pics. Maybe with a different pair of tights?

I thought I was going to see the great American scourge: big, clunky, blazingly white athletic shoes. Whew! I think this works, and is far better than drenching your oxfords.

I really like it! When it's intentional, some sneakers look really good with skirts or dresses. I think your outfit looks great!

It looks good to me. The sneakers and tights look like they are similar colors and that makes the look work for me.

While they might not be my first choice, I think they look pretty good with your skirt and it's a bonus that they're more appropriate for the weather in your part of the world. Nothing looks more ridiculous to me than inappropriate footwear for inclement weather. Was Dana the one telling us about women in New York wearing stiletto heels in blizzards?

Works for me. No big white rubber sole, so it's all good and it's important that your feet stay dry!

Amy, I used to know a woman who wore stilettos in snow and ice. She claimed she had better traction in them because the heels acted like ice picks. I am skeptical. She walked very slowly.

Add me to the crowd that clicked through nervously! These sneakers work with your skirt; the color is tonal and the contrast is low.

How did you feel in this outfit? Self-conscious? Fab? Able to focus on the day's events?

Thanks Amy! I wouldn't have started to plan this kind of outfit with them either, but I'm glad it worked out as a fall back option. I think I need some weatherproof booties that go with skirts and dresses. Stiletto heels in blizzards, that sounds homicidal.

Thanks Charmian. I would say focused on the day's events. I felt great in this combination of skirt/sweater/scarf when I wore it with my boots when it was colder. I felt okay with the sneakers.

I think it works very well, and it is true to your adorable style, too. The color blending is key here, and you rock it!

That skirt is too long for sneakers, in my opinion. If it were slightly shorter -- just above the knee, rather than below it -- then you could get away with it. But I wouldn't shorten that skirt -- it's fabulous! But it would look better with boots with a bit of a heel.

I agree with Elisabeth, I'd really like to see a shorter skirt (just above the knee) with the sneakers; not sure if you have any shorter skirts though, I know most of YLF has passed those on. I feel like this longer skirt would work best with your usual oxfords or something with a wee bit of heel (in drier weather of course), and of course boots. I also agree that this one is a fabulous length though, especially for tall boots! And of course your scarf is amazing as usual

Thanks Elisabeth and Aida! I can see what you mean. I definitely won't shorten the skirt, just wear it with boots or other shoes in the future. I don't have a short skirt, all of my skirts are at least knee length, but I don't have the real need to make these sneakers work with skirts anyway. I've only worn them with shorts and jeans before and I'm alright with that.

In a pinch, this looks good. The sneakers are low contrast, so I think it looks fine.

Weather proof booties sounds like a good wardrobe hole to fill.
