My BFF is on staycation this week so she got us timed entry tickets for the National Gallery in DC and we spent the day in the city for the first time in over 2 years. We explored the modern building of the museum, walked all around the nearby gardens, did a little shopping at the museum store and the Rack, and had a great tapas dinner at Jose Andres’ Jaleo restaurant. Weather was absolutely perfect. Truly a special day.

Kept it simple and walkable. Sundry chinos, Karen Kane koi print top, Aimee Kestenberg crossbody, and Sofft gladiator sandals.

Lots of pics from the museum and gardens! An unusually quiet day in DC.

Gorgeous! Perfect for your day, taking you from the museum to sightseeing to dinner. I love the koi top (are those longer short sleeves I spy :)? they look fab!), and olive pants are the best pants, IMHO.

I absolutely love the modern part of the National Gallery. There is a room anchored by an enormous Helen Frankenthaler painting (along the back wall) that is lodged in my memory as one of the most exquisite spaces I have ever been in.

Great outfit! However real koi carp are a noxious pest in our country, they want to take over our lakes etc. so the top might not be favoured here!
I love the brick building in pic 14 especially. It looks like something owned by the National Trust in the UK. What is it?

Jenni, that’s fascinating about the carp there, wow!

That building is the “Castle,” the administration building of the Smithsonian Institution. It’a distinctive and I’ve always liked it. There are gardens surrounding it, and it’s right next to the National Mall, which runs from the Washington Monument to the Capitol building. My friend and I were commenting how lucky we are that we grew up so close to all of this and got to visit it so many times over the years — school field trips, etc. Washington has so much to see!

Jonesy, the East building is my favorite part too. I love the Calder room!

Janet, what a feast for the eyes and heart! It must have been so wonderful to spend time with your dear friend soaking up the art, the delicious food, the beautiful flowers and the sun!

You look sensational in that koi top. If you are like me, you will find that black or charcoal and white or off-white patterns suddenly flatter WAY more than in the past due to the threads of grey in your hair. The difference really startled me when I went silver and now I rarely wear any pattern that does not have white or light grey in it (to pick up the hair).

Echo, the giant blue chicken is part of the museum! Always a highlight. Great views from that patio down Constitution avenue of the Capitol, and of where they are sadly dismantling the Newseum. I wish I’d spent more time there.
