WIW - on a cool day and yet another question

This sweater tunic is probably the oldest item in my closet right now. The ribbed design means it "shrinks" with me, so I don't have to purge it.

And the scarf is actually a tiny leopard print, or something close to it. I've actually had it for a number of years, despite my general dislike of leopard (and yes, I am feeling like the odd woman out right now) because the print was so tiny that it feels more like an abstract to me.

And now the question: what kind of toppers do you wear over tunic-length tops? What would you wear over this one?

You're not completely the odd woman out, JR -- I'm not a fan of leopard either, despite the huge amount of love it gets on this forum! I like it if it's the right print (the one on your scarf sounds nice, but it's hard to see), and if it's on an accessory, and tastefully deployed.

So, to answer your question, I wear a tunic-length topper with a tunic-length top. I try to match the hem lengths, more or less. With that tunic you're wearing, I'd wear my navy mid-thigh waxed cotton coat.

Yes, I try to match the length too. Either that or wear something completely opposite like a very cropped jacket/bolero, so it is intentional.

My H&M leopard print scarf mostly stays on the shelf, although I bought it for the color rather than the print. And, come to think of it, it is quite a bit more "abstract" than most. You are definitely not alone in your attitude towards animal prints. Maybe you, Elizabeth and I need to start a sub-group on YLF?

As for those longer tops, I'm old enough to hate the look of having tops hanging out below my jacket. Even if it looks tolerable in front, I usually really dislike the look from behind. I wear my duffle coat or my mid-length trench to cover it all up.

Ceit, that sounds good too. I think I've been going about this all wrong.

Gaylene, you made me laugh! A sub-group indeed. I should have specified, it's the indoor topper that is perplexing me. My coats cover my tunics quite nicely.

I'll join the sub-group, although I do have a pair of casual leopard print shoes & a thin belt, I'm not a huge fan. My daughter says the animal print gene skips a generation. My mother & daughter had/have masses of the stuff.

Over tunics, I wear sweater coats and cropped high/low jumpers. Over a tunic sweater, I'd wear a long coat OR cropped leather jacket.

I'm not a big cat print girl myself.

I think if you need to layer indoors with a tunic sweater like that, better to layer UNDER it.

Listen to all these secret animal print haters coming out of the closet!!!

Until YLF I also hated animal print. I thought it was tacky and over the top. Now I quite like it in the right tones and limited doses. Look what this place has done for me...

I do short over long with tunic tops (although I only have like 4 so I don't have a separate tunic appropriate overcoat wardrobe!) And in the last year I got rid of 2 of the 3 leopard prints I've owned. So, no, you are not alone in being off the cat print bandwagon. FWIW, my BF has negative associations to leopard that I don't think he's alone in . . . it may well be a man repeller of sorts. Anyway, here is my short over long:

I'm with Suz and Mo, if you need to layer with this I'd vote to either layer under or a cropped jacket above. I generally am not fond of same-length jackets with this lengthof tunic, and SOME cardigan type toppers could work but it's still often iffy to my eye.

Thank you so much, everybody. It honestly hadn't occurred to me to layer under it, other than a cami for warmth. I think my short black jacket should work well with this outfit, should I need the extra warmth.

Suz, is that what this place has done FOR you or TO you? (Joking.) I have to admit, I've learned to tolerate it better, but I am not yet at the point of actively liking it.

My hubby is also not a fan of leopard print. And he is most likely completely oblivious to the fact that is very much on trend right now.
