After a bit of a shopping spree and resulting hangover, as of Oct. 1, I'm challenging myself not to buy any new clothes or shoes for the rest of the year.

Just halfway into October, that has already created an interesting mental shift. When I'm in "wardrobe-building" mode, I am very critical of all my existing pieces -- even when they're actually fine. I keep thinking I can find a superior piece that will be more versatile, feel more like me, fit better, last forever, etc. In other words, my perfectionist tendencies really kick in.

In no-spending mode, though, those critical thoughts are easing. I'm using more of my wardrobe -- even pieces that aren't ideal -- and enjoying my clothes more.

Most of my new items are waiting for colder temps. I'm looking forward to incorporating them but feeling pretty content at the moment.
