WIW - new striped layering shirt

Wore my new striped layering shirt today (I also got a solid navy one). I rolled the arms up to show the striped sleeves underneath to make it more interesting because I've been feeling very frumpy wearing my cardigans lately. Did it work or does it look strange?

Do you have any other suggestion how I could make the cardis more interesting?

I really like the striped shirt...it's very flattering on you. The necklace is a nice touch as well. What would the sleeves of that shirt look like if they were rolled/bunched up enough to show only a couple of inches from under your cardigan sleeves?

Love the shirt, and what Hestonian said. I like the proportions better when the undershirt layer just peaks out an inch or so and also I think your tops look great when you show some wrist, so scrunched.

Having said that, in cold weather I have to pull my sleeves down, and no scrunching! so if doing that, I wear a full-sleeved topper or cardigan and cover the shirt sleeve. That's all personal preferences, though.

I love stripes - you look great! Can not help with cardi as I am not feeling too much cardi love in my closet right now. Not sure why.

Thanks Hestonian! Showing just a small bit of the underlayer is how I'd normally wear this, but I think it's very safe and kind of boring. No idea why I've gotten so bored with the look...

Thanks Parkmommychic! I'm with you on not having much cardi love right now. But not wearing them isn't really an option either.

I think this looks great Astrid - you've done a really nice job at creating interest with the cardi and it doesn't look frumpy at all - esp with the fab boots and pendant.

I love how you rolled the cardi sleeves up! And what a flattering new shirt on you, no wonder you duplicated. You're making me want to get out my striped shirts!

I'm a cardi lover through and through, but I'm happy wearing them in all configurations so not sure I can offer much advice. Have you tried buttoning them in different places to see if you can create different shapes? Or if the buttons go up high enough you could try wearing it buttoned up and backwards so like a jumper! Sometimes this works on my cardigans but on others the back neck comes up too high and looks weird as the front.

I think you look great the way you styled it! Like E I am a cardi fiend and agree with her suggestions to play around. Have you tried belting over the cardi and top? It creates a high waistline. Also try a long scarf casually knotted like a tie

Another question: are your cardis all the same size, style and lengths? If so, you might want to purge a few and introduce more variety. I have them from S to XL and at differing lengths.

Love this Astrid - not boring imo.
Could you try buttoning the cardis or buttoning but leaving the top & bottom buttons open showing a layer underneath you could then belt them?

I like this a lot. If you want something different, you could try buttoning two buttons in the middle.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad it worked and I didn't look strange all day.

My cardigans are all the same basic style, fitted cotton v-neck cardigans. I have three longer ones to go with pants (grey, navy and green) and a short bright blue cropped style I've only worn in summer. I also have a grey waterfall merino cardigan that got demoted to loungewear.

I can't replace them all at once, but I do want more interesting ones in a nicer fabric in the long run (I think I need one that is chunky). I'm also not sure the v-neck is the best look on me buttoned up, I think it makes my shoulders look narrower. You can't wear them backwards either. I do sometimes button them only in the middle btw, but belting over a cardigan isn't a look I enjoy very much.

Love the stripes and the pulled up sleeves on the cardi to show more stripe.

Others have mentioned buttoning a couple of buttons and I like that idea to pull in the waist. I'm always fascinated by Lyn's amazing wardrobe of cardis and how she styles them. Also maybe if you don't find the v cardi flattering for you maybe you could try a scarf that softens the v at the neckline.
