My husband had a conference in New Orleans this week so the two of us flew out last Friday to spend a couple days in the city together. The kids stayed home with their grandparents. It rained most of the trip and I could have packed better although I didn't do a terrible job. When I looked up the weather it was supposed to be rainy and in the mid-80's, but it was colder than that the first couple days - more like 70's.
The trip turned out to be great although I wasn't super excited about it originally. It was too close to getting back from our beach vacation. Also school started for my kids the day before we left and I was more concerned with getting them ready, shopping for school supplies, etc than packing for this trip.
#1 - Olive dress and brown sandals for traveling. Our flight left at 5 am (I didn't even know our airport was open that early!) so this photo was taken around 3:30 am before we left the house. I think I look pretty good considering how early it was.
#2 - I had a pink sweater I wore over the dress when I got cold (I don't have a full body photo of that version, just this selfie with DH). Since it was raining so hard we spent the day indoors at restaurants (I love the food in NOLA) and museums.
#3 - For dinner, I changed into pants and a t-shirt with the same pink sweater. I had brought the pants for the trip back since I was leaving super early again and was going to go to work when I got back to Albuquerque. However, they were perfect for the temps that night. We walked down Bourbon Street after dinner, walked to Frenchmen Street for some music and drinks, and I found an artist's market where I bought a painting for my sister.
#4 - Second day - it rained all day this day too but it was a light, drizzly rain, not the downpour of the day before. We wandered around the Garden District, the Lafayette Cemetery, and along the Mississippi River. We had beignets at Cafe du Monde and then walked up and down Royal Street and Bourbon Street before meeting some of DH's coworkers on Frenchmen Street for music and drinks.
#5 - Third Day - DH had some conference stuff in the morning so I went to the Ogden Art Museum. It rained this day also but it was short, intense thunderstorms interspersed with sun. We met up for lunch (muffalettas), took the ferry to Algiers Point, had more beignets, and wandered around the French Quarter.
#6 - I changed into the poppy dress for dinner since I was hot and sweaty and took a shower after getting back to our room.
I took just the two pairs of shoes and they were great for walking and I had no issues with foot pain. Luckily both pairs could get wet without issues too although I was jealous of people in rain boots on the first day when it was pouring down rain. I brought the small brown bag which was big enough for my pink sweater (very thin and scrunches down to nothing), and other essentials. A cardigan for the rainy evenings would have been a nice addition. I brought an extra pair of shorts and a tank that I didn't end up wearing.
Thanks for looking and any comments/suggestions are more than welcome.
