Dear Fabbers,
Today, I am wearing a new dress. It is an outlet find, a German design by Wolfgang Joop. Made from very light viscose. I fell for the beautiful pattern, although I generally prefer solid fabrics (on me). I am also wearing a new pair of earrings, which I have got on our recent trip to Helsinki. They are in silver made by Lapponia (the design is by Björn Weckström as a part of his Silver Space collection, launched in 1969, the name is Mini Punk).
I wear the dress over white wide leg trousers with silver loafers. I also added chunky faux pearls and blue aviator sunglasses.
The second version of the outfit is the dress as a dress with a chain handbag and grey metallic ballerina flats. This is just to try, I rather wear shirt dresses over various trousers.
I tried also with different scarves, but resisted the temptation

What do you guys think? Honest feedback and styling suggestions will be much appreciated.

ETA I am not happy with the ballerina shoes with the dress. Tried different shoes, but nothing looked good to my eye. Maybe a pair of sneakers? What do you think?

The earrings are beautiful! What a great souvenir. What about trying the dress on its own with the silver loafers?

I totally understand why you bought the dress. The pattern is gorgeous, and the blue and white is just beautiful against your own coloring. I am used to you in more structured outfits, so I have to adjust my eye to this. I will say, this is a style of dress that I find personally hard to wear—and I love and wear dresses over pants all the time—because I feel like I'm wearing a nightgown. I very much like the way you have it styled over the white trousers, and I love the silver loafers and accessories. I like the breezy look of the dress worn by itself, but perhaps a lighter colored and more structured bag to ground its breeziness, and a lighter colored shoe in a different style would set it off better. I do have a poison eye for ballerina flats, so there is that!

Those earrings are absolutely stunning!! I want them. They are sooo pretty on you.

I like kellygirl's suggestion to wear the dress by itself with those wonderful silver loafers.

The fabric reminds me of toile de jouy and is very beautiful. I'm with all of the above in loving how you styled it with the flowey white trousers and those fabulous loafers. DO give it a try with the loafers instead of the ballerinas and with sneakers for an off duty style.

What a beautiful dress. Another addition to your boho-lite capsule! The pants outfit is wonderful, an easy option for you, because it is so much your style. It's a very fresh look, taking this pretty toile print and adding trousers.

I like the idea of the ballet flats with the dress-worn-as-a-dress, and they look pretty with it. But I like even more your idea of wearing sneakers, because the ballet flats take the dress into an almost too expected look. Maybe too old-fashioned, in a way, added to the toile print. (I would prefer sneakers to loafers, too, for the dress-as-a-dress.) I could see the dress with a strappy sandal or juxtaposed with a gladiator style sandal or open-toe bootie as well.

Gorgeous new pieces!!! I agree with the suggestions about trying the dress with the silver loafers or maybe some sneakers. I also wonder if the proportions might look better if the dress was just a little shorter a tiny bit above the knee or just at the knee. You could pin it up temporarily to see if you like it.

I agree with the loafers or sneakers suggestion. As Kate said, it's a departure from your more structured look, so a more structured shoe (if that makes any sense!) might be just the finishing touch!

Oooh, I LOVE that dress. I so want one. It’s just got It.

I have to think about the shoes. You are right about the ballet shoes. In my head, I see white shoes (or the silver in the first outfit). I see Architectural too. Wide straps, a bit of a platform. Something ultra modern and minimalist.

As a dress, try it with your white loafers that you never wear!

Lovely romantic dress.Try it with lighter coloured footwear.l agree with you,the darker shoes don’t work so well with the light floaty-ness of the dress.

What a beautiful dress. I agree that the ballet flats are not the best, but think it is not the style but the darkish color that is not working with the dress. What about the silver loafers that you are wearing in the photos of the dress with the trousers.. May a blush or nude tan shoe, or a shade of white. I think refined fashion sneakers in white would work. The dress looks delicate and feminine, so a shoe that evokes that feeling but not overly sweet.

The silver loafers are good in terms of the color, but the shape looks awkward without the trousers, IYKWIM. I agree that the dress as a dress would need more structured accessories and lighter shoes. Unfortunately, I don’t have any suitable sandals, all are black or combined with black. Something to be on a lookout for.

Kate, exactly, the dress feels like a nightgown Although in a good way too, very soft, roomy and breezy. The trousers feel better with it.

The dress looks like it would be great for a hot day--cool and breezy. I like it with the pants too. Keep trying to find the right shoes--are you sure the silver loafers won't work.

Love the dress on you and with the white. Agree the ballet flats are somehow not quite right - maybe the loafers as Angie suggested. I would try a pointy toe. Basically I would pull out a bunch of my shoes and keep trying until I was satisfied. Earrings are gorgeous!

I think the problem with the ballet flats is the round toes of them as well as the too dark colour, agreeing with Joy on that. With those gorgeous earrings you need something quite angled. I can’t see why the silver loafers couldn’t work?
The dress is really lovely.

Love the dress pattern and the silver loafers and earring. And the white trousers are TDF. I like 1 better than 3 - it seems more you. But i think the white loafers or sneakers might be just the ticket in the dress mode.

Thank you all very much for looking and for the ideas! I am glad you like the first combo with the trousers. I will wear the dress as a dress as well with white sneakers, it looks ok. I will also try the white loafers I have as Angie suggested. For next summer, I will hopefully find a pair of shoes that will work perfectly. I need a pair of light color sandals, maybe silver or tan or beige.

These silver loafers are extremely flat and very soft - almost like slippers for home. With the skirt, it is not a flattering shape. That is why I didn’t like it without the trousers.

Perfect with the silver shoes in nr 1, why couldn't you wear with these when styled like a simple dress??

I love this dress, the print is so pretty and great colours on you. I really like how modern and fashion forward the dress is with the pants - but it is very pretty and soft worn as a dress too. I would wear this with a metallic sandal in summer.

These silver loafers are extremely flat and very soft - almost like slippers for home. With the skirt, it is not a flattering shape. That is why I didn’t like it without the trousers.

Beautiful new dress and earrings! I really like the print on you. The colors suit you well. #1 is fab as is. Do you ever wear skinny pants? I think those would add a bit of structure to the outfit. I agree with the others that your silver loafers or sneakers would be good options......how about the pair of “red shoes to the rescue” you bought?

Lovely dress! I think the ballet flats look okay, but that the silver loafers might be better. However, I imagine that a pair of deep blue (semi-)high mules would look perfect with this dress.

(Just a tip: A few weeks ago, I bought a pair of deep blue suede mules with a 5 cm block heel, at "Skopunkten." Maybe similar styles are still available there.)

Thank you so much for the tip, The Cat! The mules sound perfect - a 5 cm block heel is the BEST, my favourite height. I will check Skopunkten tomorrow, we have several of their shops here.
