WIW - My God I wore a skirt - YouLookFab Forum

So busy at work at the moment. YLF is definitely my stress relief. I look forward to checking out everyone's posts and sharing my style journey with you all. I feel comfortable with my style rubric. Contrast /Romantic/Pretty/Sparkly however I recognise that I do have something of a personal uniform going. My objective is to start introducing skirts and (scary) dresses into my repertoire.

Photo 1 & 2 - 16 Apr Work - I wasn't very adventurous this week so only one skirt (it's actually a maxi skirt that I rolled at the waist so it became a midi - not sure if I got the length and proportions right). Worn with bright red sleeveless slightly oriental looking top, black cardi and black peep toe shoes. Bling courtesy of large hoop ear-rings with red beads (hard to see in photo)

Photo 3 -17 Apr Work - T-Shirt wrap top, black cami, grey trousers & grey suede pumps. Bling - gypsy style coin and bead necklace

Photo 4 -18 Apr Work - trusty black trousers, floral grey/black/white chiffon blouse, purple cardi and purple sandals (my favourites). Bling courtesy of pendant necklace and silver/amethyst ear rings

Photo 5 - 19 Apr Work - a little bit casual (but ok for my work place), grey and white blouse with waist tie, grey wide leg trousers, black sandals and bling courtesy of heart pendant, white translucent cuff and heart earrings.

I'm happy with my looks in 3 to 5 as this is my standard uniform but not so sure about the skirt. I so rarely wear them that I feel uncomfortable doing so - but I will persevere.

Kiwichik, why don't you feel comfortable wearing a skirt? I love your "uniform", you look terrific in all of these; but while they make me see a stylish, cute and friendly person, the first outfit makes me see an intriguing woman of the world! It could be the top and the bling as well the look is a little gypsyish and mysterious but modern, and you carry that so well!

I feel really self conscious about my calves& ankles they are on the large side -very sturdy and great for playing basketball and netball - but not my favourite fashion accessories. Strangely I don't have the same hang up about my large butt and thighs - they are faithful friends and I like them.

Kiwichik, you look good in the peeptoes - but selfconsciousness about ankles/calves has a brilliant solution - BOOTS!

Lovely set of outfits! You look great in the skirt, but as Fruitful suggests, considering boots or booties could alleviate you concern (I think you ankles and calves look fine).

If it makes you feel any better I never noticed your calves/ankles because I was so busy admiring the outfit. I totally agree with Fruitful in that it has a gypsy/exotic quality that's very appealing in a mysterious sort of way. They're all pretty, but that first one is very eye catching.

You look beautiful in a skirt Kiwichik! I don't see big calves or ankles at all. But we all have our comfort zones so I applaud you for stepping out of yours with a skirt!

Yeah for skirts! and you look great in yours. I share the heavy leg (everywhere) syndrome..

I have learned so far, I need to wear chumky heels to balance the leg, no kitten or stilettos here.

And since my ankles are a bit chunky, it actually helps me to wear a shoe/bootie with a wider opening since my ankles/lower leg looks smaller in comparison. I did a mirror test with bunches of shoes/booties the other night and it was fascincating to see how the shoe made difference. ¨

Also, for me, despite advice to the contrary, a strap across my foot and not a low vamp seemed the most leg enhancing. The low vamp left my foot and ankle looking the same width, but a strap broke it up and make the ankle seem to have a slender part. the strap cannot be too high or it ruins the effect.

Hi ladies some great suggestions. Fruitful , Deborah & Jayne will definitely try boots/booties and will try not to be jealous of my Aussie mates having direct access to Zara (even if it's not a very good one).

I used to wear pants all the time because I didn't like my legs, but I finally decided I couldnt change that part of my body. Then I discovered dresses and skirts were and found out how much more I could do with these extra items. My outfits grew substantially. You look great in a skirt.

You look terrific in a skirt! I have avoided dresses and skirts for much the same reason and am anxious to try boots with skirts next Fall and winter. It's starting to get a little to warm for them now in Boise.

I think you look great in a skirt! I tend to hide my legs because I think they are too skinny so I know how you feel but I am thinking about wearing a skirt this summer...

Goodness, you look fab in a skirt. Since I'm in the stick-leg camp, I can't offer suggestions, but I don't see the need for any suggestion since i think you look just fine!

Hi Kiwichik, I'm enjoying looking at your outfits as you establish a sort-of style baseline. You have great style! You look terrific in a skirt too, so good for you for trying something out of your comfort zone!
