Last night I met friends for a dear friend’s birthday dinner. It’s still very muggy and hot here so I’m choosing breezy pieces for the most part.

I have learned over the years that Nordstrom has a pretty good designer sale around the same time as the NAS. I take that opportunity to check out designers I like that I normally just can’t justify due to price. I have loved this Dries Van Noten orchid print since I first spotted it, so when it appeared in the sale, I had to try it.

The width of the shoulder on the sleeveless style is a little awkward on me (my shoulders are uneven, and certain widths emphasize that), so I just tucked the outer edges of the shoulder under my bra straps for a sort of halter-ish effect. I may put a few stitches in to make this a permanent alteration, but the fabric is very fine and I don’t want to do anything to damage it. The tuck seems to do the trick well.

Worn with my Maria Cornejo lantern-ish pants and very old United Nude black and white sandals. The sandals hurt by the end of the night, so now I remember why I don’t wear them often. I may pass them along because I do have other shoes that serve the same purpose that are more comfortable.
