WIW - Mochi-inspired Mondrian

Ever since Mochi posted her Mondrian-inspired outfit:

I've been determined to give it a try. Now that all the requisite items are out of the laundry, there's nothing holding me back.

I wanted the three primary colours, plus black (lines would be preferable) and white. Obviously, only colour blocking with solids. Seeing as I have only one item each in vibrant blue, red, and yellow, that pretty well laid the groundwork. White cardi for the white (I have a scarf too, but two scarves?). If I go out, I could switch to my black knit jacket for a more fab look and wear my white wool coat. Black footwear and a choice of either black purse to provide lines: in the pattern for the first one and by the strap with the second. And yes, I know that second picture looks dorky, but I do lose patience when taking these pictures...

I could have just looped the scarf around my neck and let it dangle, to be a bit more linear, but it would have been annoying for household chores, so I turned it into a necklace instead. I love this scarf for grey days - sunshine on tap.

I like the inspiration but the white is throwing me off... I'd prefer to see both the black and white elements in the same dosage. Otherwise my eye immediately goes to the white cardi to the detriment of the color scheme. What about white scarf and yellow topper?

That scarf is the only yellow I've got. I could do white scarf and black topper, but then I lose the yellow.

This was more to have some fun than to make a fashion statement.

Apparently that was a good thing.

Glad you had fun with it, the most important of getting dressed.

I see what AG means about the white grabbing the attention. I think it has also to do with the bright/dark aspect. The cardi and scarf are very bright and the top/jeans/purse/shoes are very dark. Mochi's colors looked to me to be on the same brightness scale. Fun experiment.

All of the colours are brighter than they appear in the photo. I have not been able to find a way around my camera's tendency to darken things, even with a flash.

I think we need to do another "painting" challenge. They are amazingly tough to carry off! Good for you for imagining this outfit and dreaming it into being.

Maybe after the holidays we can attempt it. Speaking for myself, my own brain is too crammed with other details at this time of year to set it up, but perhaps in January.

I would be in on an inspiration challenge! It sounds like fun.

I like the concept of this, JR, but I think in execution you are missing the pieceiness of Mochi's look, and the black linear part needs to be amped up. But I am glad you had fun, and I am not one to talk since I posted an inspiration based on my bathroom scale when I first was on this site

I really like the idea of this and like others the white is throwing me off. But that's not to so it isn't a cute outfit, I just think the outfit would just be more cohesive with a different coloured cardi.
