Wow, Kyle, thank you!
Honestly, my “process” is a combination of things. Some examples:
- when I first buy something, I try to make sure I do a mini styling session. I try it on with things I think will work with it, which gives me an idea of how versatile something will or won’t be, with the added bonus of giving me outfit ideas right away.
- ok, this may sound weird, but when I am having trouble sleeping, instead of counting sheep or something, I assemble outfits for upcoming days or events in my head. I even have an habit of checking the next day’s weather when I go to bed. I often fall asleep before I get a couple of ideas fleshed out, but sometimes I get a good idea first!
- I tend to start planning an outfit with a particular item I’m keen to wear that day. It might be shoes, maybe a top or jacket, or certain pants, skirt, dress… I build outward from that item.
- I’m an intuitive dresser (maybe comes with the artist thing), and intuitive shopper. Sometimes it’s just a matter of going with what feels right!
Today I got dressed in two minutes flat. With no idea when I got up what I was going to wear. We had an early morning appointment to see the layout of our quartzite counters for our new kitchen island, and I lost track of time and had to shower and dress quickly.
I knew I wanted to get a pedicure afterward, and that it was going to be warm today, so I snagged the first pair of sandals that called to me, my Rag & Bone cinnamon and white sandals. I decided that I wanted to pull in some white in the top, so I grabbed my new Athleta white shirt, and with a warm day on tap, my Nili Lotan grey chinos. I needed a belt and remembered I hadn’t worn this belt in a very long time, and it brought in a little metallic and a bit of interest, as well as echoing the tone of the sandals. Funny because I was thinking about giving this belt away and now I won’t. My grey Bao Bao bag was already being used yesterday so I didn’t have to change bags.
I’m sitting outside right now (enjoying the weather and escaping contractor noise on our back deck) but here are some lazy pics of the details, including my ring, as signature rings are another detail I like to use when I’m wearing a very simple outfit. This may not be a very exciting outfit but it felt good for errands and I enjoyed wearing it. My husband even remarked that I “looked nice,” so that’s always welcome!
I hope that gives at least a little insight!
