These are a few outfits that I have been wearing lately.

1/ Linen Shirts and Jeans are my go-to. It is an easy formula for me and often seems to work.
Linen Shirt -- Moss Green Power of My People
Jeans -- Citizens of Humanity
Sandals -- Birks

2/ Long Sleeves and Shorts are my daily outfit for dog walking. I ordered the shorts from Everlane and wasn't expecting them to be so distressed, but they fit perfectly, so I kept them. I don't mind the distressing for everyday looks.
Cotton Shirt -- Jesse Kamm
Jean Shorts -- Everlane

3/ Linen Shirt and Pants. I am struggling to style these pants, which are usually easy to wear in the summer. This is the only outfit I have come up with. I am open to ideas.

Your outfits are all great. You really suit a shirt! I really like look 3 , but I do agree that elastic or drawstring pants can be tricky to wear.

Options

1) Tops that just cover the waist or sit at it either through design or the tie like you have done here.

2) surrendering the waist and just wearing a loose longer top. You can always leave the bottom buttons undone. I struggle to do this myself but like it on others.

3) Open shirt over a fitted tee or tank. Or light jacket. I think this would look really good.

I love the green linen shirt with the white linen pants. I’m not sure there is any better combination. I have some pants like that, maybe longer, and I’m going to try with a solid colored tank, or a new yellow print flow top. (I’m not even sure what to call that type of top. Woven, sleeveless, ties at neck. Probably a blouse technically.)

I think the linen pants do well with the structured shirt, and I might find the flow blouse I have in mind too unstructured for the pants. The tank might be better, closer fitting, to add structure.

If you wear sleeveless tops, that might work with the long sleeve linen over, or maybe a kimono type layer. But I feel your style is probably more classic and structured than using layers or flows fabrics.

You look wonderful in these linen shirts. I like all the outfits, but I understand the difficulties of style elastic waist pants or skirts. Ugh. I tend to look for those that have the elastic in back only but they are not always easy to find. I like what you have done here with the top. Another way I style them is to wear a longer tucked in top bloused so that the elastic is more or less covered. You can also wear a welted top, or a slightly cropped one that just comes to the bottom of the elastic.

Thanks, Sal. I like the idea of #3. I will try that with a tank or tee. I have a tank/tee shortage in my wardrobe right now. Why is that always the case? A piece is hard to find.

Great outfits--I like all those shirts. I see what you mean with the linen pants. I think you nailed it by shortening the shirt to meet the waistband. For other styling ideas, you could just buy a few of the very-in modest crop shirts right now, longer than previous crops buy shorter than a regular tee. They would fall to the same spot, I bet.

Great looks, Style Fan! I like the long-sleeved linen shirt with shorts and Birks for a cool and casual look. Very stylish for dog-walking!

The last one is fantastic. I've recently tried tying shirts like that at my waist, and then ended up taking out the knot or wearing something else. I love the look and yet don't feel it quite works on me, for some reason.

But anyway, back to your question. You mention you are short on tees and tanks, so this idea may not work, but I would try a short, boxy tee with the pants. Or a short, boxy summer pullover sweater. Or a summer sweater with a welt that can rest at high-hip. Or a fluid tee semi tucked and bloused a bit in front.

I saw someone covering an elastic waist with a wide-ish belt recently and it totally worked. Your linens look easy-breezy.

I love how your palette and style are so consistently casual-elegant!

I struggle a little with elastic waists too, but I do sometimes either semi-tuck or knot a tee or shirt, as you’ve done here. Also, I’ve found that a body-skimming (not too tight, not too boxy) tee cropped to just the right length (for me, maybe just covering the waist) can be really good with those kinds of pants. It’s a good balance of polished and casual and requires zero tucking, tying or fussing.

I am loving my linen pants extra hard this summer since they are trending, including with the exposed drawstring tie. But one way I use to hide that, is to wear an untucked shirt buttoned at the top and leaving the lower buttons undone, creating an inverse V. Maybe a bit too lagenlook for your tailored style, but you have lots of shirts to try it with.

I like this summer when anything is acceptable. First denim, now linen.

I bought a second hand long skirt in natural linen color. It is in the laundry and need ironing but is light and goes with many tops for hot weather. It is still in the 80's here but hard to dress for all day.

Honestly I’d wear the pants in #3 with a simple tee shirt, tucked and bloused over the waist. Throw one of your linen shirts on as a jacket if you need extra coverage, or a denim jacket. And you’re good to go

Linen looks so good on you. I really like outfit 3 as is, although you have tons of great suggestions to try. That warm olive in #3 is a beautiful color on you.

I like your outfits especially the colours in picture 3. I too find elastic waists very difficult to style. I bought black linen trousers but gave them to my sister as I couldn’t find anything to wear with them. I also need a more tailored look but admire them on others.

You look lovely in all your linen shirts. (I love my POMP navy long sleeve shirt from them, more than my cotton one!) The shade of green on you in #3 looks so great on you and very summery.

Re the pants, I also find it challenging to style elasticized waistband pants. I like Sal's idea with a more form-fitting tank or t-shirt tucked in and then a button-up shirt on top left open. I've done this with shorts and it was fun for me to wear. Also, I've added a belt to cover the waistband and look more polished.

Looking good, SF! Linen suits you very well. I’d try a slightly cropped top with the pants, or a fitted tank with an open shirt over, or a top with a welt. I think with this style of pants a shirt or top with a horizontal hem, rather than a curved hem, works better.

I need to expand my collection of summer toppers. I depend too heavily on white, however I find that colors other than neutrals have disappeared in XS or smaller sizes.
