I enjoy juxtaposition in dressing, and this outfit has all kinds: new and very old pieces, super cheap and high-end, and dressy with very casual.

I wasn’t sure about wearing this dressier Veronica Beard shirt with such casual shorts but my husband walked in and loved it, so I cut the tags and am wearing it! It’s a rare 3/4 length sleeve for me, but it works because I don’t anticipate ever layering it (except maybe a vest could look good with it!), and the bell sleeve works best at this length — not long enough to get in the way when eating, etc. I love this kind of neckline and it’s not always easy to find, so I tend to snap them up when I find one that works for me. It’s always a minor miracle when the bust doesn’t gape!

The shorts are the often-controversial clamdigger length — a DIY from years ago. They started life as a pair of Gap “Sexy Boyfriend” jeans so that tells you how old they are. I cut them off ages ago to a length below the knee and then roll/cuff them to suit my mood.

Sofft gladiator sandals and Kestenberg reptile print backpack, plus silver ring (from an artist in Stellenbosch, South Africa) and earrings.

I’m laughing in the closeup pic because my husband made me — today is our dog Woody’s sixth birthday, and I joked that he can now start first grade. Jamie found that hilarious so he’s been talking all morning about Woody’s first day of school. I think it’s funniest if you know Woody’s personality — he is a giant derp. He’s not very smart but he is super sweet and we like to say he has a good attitude — Sunny (on the left) is the smart and serious one, with the attitude one might expect. If Woody is in first grade, she is the moody teenager!
