After lurking around the forum for a while, I find it fitting to properly introduce myself with some WIW. I've already picked up many great tips and tricks just by browsing through old posts here. I'm very exited to join in, and am very thankful for any comments and feedback you may have.

I have always admired style and beauty on others, but never felt that I quite got it "right". I've previously taken solace in that I didn't get it. That style and fashion wasn't meant for me, but at least I wasn't shallow (lol). But as I am entering my thirties I feel it's time to get serious about who I am, and how I'm conveying myself to the world.

For the last six months I've been researching, journaling, reassessing all my clothes and planning my wardrobe and purchases. It has been an eye opening experience! What has been most helpful has been to document my outfits through pictures. It's funny how something can seem great on paper, or look fine in the mirror at home, and then BOOM: the utter shock in seeing yourself how others may perceive you. Ha ha!

I strive for a more feminine, flattering, fun and fashionable style.
These are three of my latest WIW.

#1 I went and bought my first pair of white boots, courtesy of Angie. Tried to style them with a column of color and some fashion-forward accessories. I felt almost too elegant (like I was playing dress-up) at home, but in the pictures I think I resemble a skiing instructor!

#2 Again, quite an epiphany seeing my outfit in a pic versus in the mirror at home. I felt I nailed it with the accessories here, but I see now that especially the sheepskin-shawl looks very dated. Or at least not the style I was going for. Again white shoes, and polka dot pants.

#3 This is a wool coat which I got for 10 euros at a second hand-shop. How lucky am I! I tried to be on trend in this outfit, but I guess my sneakers are dated or not fashion-forward enough (I will NOT be trying the dad shoes-trend, ha ha!). Maybe I could make the outfit more current if I went and bought a wider guitar-strap-thingy for my purse? I'm wearing my brand new cropped denims here, but they're hardly visible.

Hi and welcome! Seeing in photos can certainly be different versus the mirror. You don't look like a ski instructor to me! I agree you could have better sneakers.

Welcome, Synne! Your outfits look wonderful. Your long camel coat is lovely. Have you tried it with red? The COS blanket scarf that Anie showed us in today's blog post (Tuesday) would be perfect.

Thank you for the feedback Jenni and Joy! I am looking for new sneakers, but I am not yet sure what to replace them with. Or if sneakers belong to my new style at all? Time will tell. I will try pairing my coat with red! Excellent idea. Maybe that's a way to make the look more feminine? The coat in and of itself is not very fashionable, I know, but it's wool and not some strange pilling-blend, so I HAVE to make it work, ha ha!

Welcome, Synne! You sound like you are off to a good start. The white boots and camel coat are great! I esp like the camel coat with grey and black. It occurs to me the white sneakers could be more white - the red and blue stripes and tan soles are what throw that off a little bit.

I also very much like the red white and black outfit, with the fuzzy scarf. Don’t think that’s dated.

#1 seems a very realistic outfit to me. Not costumey at all (which I feel is a danger of being fashionable).

Rachylou you have just pinpointed what I couldn't put my finger on! That's exactly what's wrong with these sneakers. How great to get new perspectives and a trained eye. Thank you! If I get new sneakers I will look for solid colors. I definitely agree with the balance of being fashionable and feeling costumy. Maybe it has to do with so called imposter-syndrome, that many women may have. At least for my part it has to do with a bit of "Jante": who do I dare think I am by dressing up? But all this was summed up perfectly in another post.

Welcome. I like how creative and fashion forward your outfits are. I don’t think they’re dated either. Just a matter of some slight tweaks here and there, which ylf is great for helping with.
I’d love to see the long coat with the white boots and red gloves.

Great style! Love your ensembles in #1 and #2. Both are chic and sporty elegant. Furthermore, all the white and black items can easily be styled in different ways. The polkadots and the red touches are charming.

Your camel coat is gorgeous and would look even more fab worn with boots (i.e. your white ones, and perhaps an offwhite turtleneck sweater or a big offwhite scarf), oxfords or loafers. If you choose to wear sneakers, I suggest solid white or blush or patterned white & beige/brown.

My first thought is that you are too hard on yourself! I think all three of these outfits are very nice. The sheepskin shawl does not look dated to me (instead it adds a very "individual" element to your outfit). The third picture with the long coat and sneakers reads very urban-hipster to my eye. It comes across as intentional, but while it's a look it may not be *your* look and that is perfectly fine!

Welcome! You look terrific and your landscape looks familiar. I live in Canada but we have the same snowy "spring" weather here. Ha!

First off, I love the white boots on you. The first outfit looks great to me! A bit sporty but also a bit mod. The red gloves are a great touch. I adore the second outfit -- again, I would say a bit retro (with the polka dots) and not at all dated. The texture injects fun and whimsy in what can otherwise be a dismal round of pullover after pullover for those of us in the north at this time of year. Your coat is an amazing statement piece. I'd love it with the red gloves!

Your outfits are really great! No 1 is absolutely perfect - and the red gloves are so chic with it. Nothing costumy at all - just a beautiful, chic and modern outfit. No 2 is so nice with the fluffy scarf and polka dots. And I really like the third outfit with the gorgeous coat - what a fabulous find! The outfit to me reeds very modern and chic. I am not bothered by this kind of sneakers but if you are, you could rather easily change them. As Suz and Joy said, red touches would be great with the coat too.

I happen to think that your Asics Tiger sneakers are a modern classic, so you wont hear any complaints about them from me. I have a green pair and the only reason I dont wear them more often is that I have white Nike Cortez sneakers that I like better.

The white booties are more eye-catching than you think (that’s what I found when I tried a pair). I thinknit’s Just a matter of getting used to the style.

The polka dots are fun, and the ASICS are not dated!

Welcome Synne. I think you have nailed the very chic "mom in the know" where fashion is concerned. These outfits speak to me as someone with confidence in her style. Keep doing what you are doing. And I know of few people comfortable with camera shots unless it's their business and livelihood. And yes- as a relative newbie myself- YLF friends have been warm, wonderful, supportive, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful .
