Here are some outfits where I personally think I succesfully integrated existing wardrobe items (benchwarmers really) into new outfits.
1) cold and rainy weather made me not want to wear my oxfords but rather a sturdier and higher shaft bootie with these pants. These taupe/brown booties I’ve had for 3 of 4 years, but they were a bit too small after my pregnancy (feet grew a size and then went down half a size again) upon which I brought them to a consignment store. There they went unsold so I brought them back home. They are now a bit tight but not terribly so, and they started serving as a backup completer piece for some very specific outfits. When worn with these pants I was amazed how suddenly they shone: the v-shaped shaft was never before so visible. Loving the result.
2) because of the cold I added a new spring scarf. Pink with burgundy would’t have occurred to me if it wasn’t for my shortage of scarves to choose from with all woolies already packed away. Unexpectedly liked the combo.
3) i was imagining this outfit with a crisp white or cream structured topper, I even have some on order to try. But the beige cardi was lying around and warm enough, plus works with the booties tonally. I liked the relaxed vibe all in all and was very comfortable, perfect for a low stakes day at the office.
4) bonus pic of my new statement outfit in action. Still unseasonably cold, so I needed a topper even for the indoors birthday party I was invited too. Again I had dreamt of a white structured topper, but I don’t have one yet so tried everything else in my closet. This white vest has been considered for donation several years in a row because it’s so unassuming and I don’t wear a lot of optical white. I use it every summer occasionally as a last-minute topper over summer sleeveless tops and dresses. Here to my surprise it seemed the perfect complement. Shoes were allright but not essential to get right, as it was a take your shoes off type of party.
Lesson learnt: humble benchwarmers can be just the completer piece you need, so best to always first shop your closet!
