Ginger posted a great item recently about creating a "hot" September capsule. Clothing that has a bit of a fall feel, but is still suitable for temps in the 90s F (or warmer!)
Well, we are having "hot winter" here right now, and yesterday was another sunny 80 degree day. I pulled out a lightweight flowy dark dress that I wear in fall with bare legs and sandals. My legs just aren't bare-worthy in February. So I tried some opaque black tights, but they felt too dark and heavy visually and temperature-wise. (Additional product shot of the dress is included because it more accurately relects the colors.)
How would you style this dress for an unseasonably warm dead-of-winter day?
And apologies to those who are shoveling snow and probably think this weather sounds heavenly - it will be your turn to gloat in August!

I'm thinking some sheer black hose (or maybe plum) with shoes that have a closed toe but straps or some kind of openwork. And a necklace with some shine.

I was also thinking sheer black or ink stockings. You could also wear a nude stocking that may give your legs just a little color or just go bare legged and let pale skin be what it is. I think pale legs would work with your light booties here.
We are ready for warmer weather but not 80's yet. No gloating in August here. By then we are ready for summer to be over.

I probably wouldn't wear booties if it's 80. I'd wear nude or sheer stockings and shoes. The dress is pretty and looks great on you.

This is a great outfit, and looks very good for the temperature. Great dress, darker for the season but lightweight for the temperature. I agree that sheerer tights would be a good look as well. Different shoes are an option, too.

I'm agreeing that a more sheet tights would probably tweak it a bit to make it feel more like an 80 degree day, but that doesn't stop it from being a great fit overall. You look cute!

Gosh, if it was 80, I wouldn't be wearing tights. I love the dress and it looks perfect for a warm winter day. I would have probably worn it with knee high boots without tights. That way my legs are still mostly covered up but it's cooler (and less confining) than tights.

I am in summer now but those sort of days do happen in our winter too. I would go for bare legs and knee high boots, as Sara suggests. A light coloured pair would look good with the dress. Looks great on you.

Thanks, all. Yes, I believe the many suggestions of lighter stockings would be a better look and more comfortable, too. I never seem to make it through a day without running sheer hoisery, but I believe there is a pair of black micro-mesh lurking in a back drawer. I will try them next time. Love the idea of ink or plum, but those seem pretty hard to find these days. Maybe something to keep on my wish list.

Sara and Brooklyn, the suggestion of knee high boots and bare legs is excellent. Unfortunately, I can't stand the way that feels. I can only tolerate that with western boots, which would just be too costumey.

Ginger, this does convince me that some cut-out booties as you have on your list would be a great and useful item.

Actually I like the dress with the opaques, as shown here, the lighter booties help a lot! Think YLF!

First of all, what a gorgeous dress and beautiful moody colours to deal with a hot winter temperature. It looks great on you. I agree that perhaps sheer hose would lighten the look a bit but not too much!

Love this. Hot winter days can be a problem here too. This looks right for a winter day that's too hot for sweaters and scarves.
