WIW - Flapper puts on the Glad Rags

I wore this to a party last night and unconsciously channeled a 1920s vibe. It's a very comfortable outfit which was helpful because I don't really like most parties. I'm more a small-group socializer. The crowd gathered outside by the pool and the super-loud DJ, but hubby and I retired to the living room and chatted with one couple all evening.

The lady in this couple teaches college-level costuming and sewing, and they invited us back to their house (kind of reverse party-crashing!) to see her gorgeous steampunk dresses! Plonk! I didn't know whether to drool or faint. Hubby was such a sweetheart to put up with us gals swooning over camo, silks, leathers, grommets, pith helmets, and petticoats. I asked her to email a photo of her work so I can share it with all of you.

So my outfit, if you've read this far ha ha, is definitely on the casual side of dressy but I feel great in it. Good for hot weather, everything is machine washable. Bonus: peekaboo pup.

This outfit is stunning! I can't tell you how much I like it. My fave ever. You totally channel Gatsby; it's like Gatsby for today.

I think I must have missed your haircut, because this is the first I've seen of your new shorter do -- I like it! It suits you very well. Your outfit looks great too and I always love your spunky, positive attitude.

I love your hair! It really suits you well. Your outfit is among my favorites on you, too, and I definitely agree that Gatsby comes to mind. THe skirt is particularly flattering on you. How lucky you were to be invited home to the costume and sewing teacher. I had a dream of pursuing that as my occupation when I was young, but literature and language won. Ornella - Thank you! I sorta slipped the new hairdo in when nobody was looking, glad you like it! It's funny how parties change over our lifetimes. When I was young I thought I liked parties. It turned out I like kids' parties. I like the structure, the games, the group activities, the camaraderie. Adult parties are usually a free-for-all, and if you're not a social butterfly they can feel like an Amish shunning. Plus there are no games, no prizes, no party favors - what the heck? Maybe in our golden years parties will revert to a nice game of bingo and a slice of cake.

Pil - love that term "Gatsbyesque" - so clever! Yes, it's shorter. My husband cut it, his first time cutting hair. I am so happy and I saved $20. Thank you!
