WIW - First dresses of the season

I know some people are excited that it's warm enough to put away their tights for the season, but I'm just happy it's finally warm enough to wear single pairs of non-fleece lined tights!

Yesterday was a still chilly, at least in the morning, so I've went with a long-sleeve chambray shirtdress and rolled the sleeves up as the weather warmed. This dress came with a fabric belt that always looks a little sloppy to me, so I went with this yellow one to give it some structure and color. It's a little short for work though and was still a little too cold to go bare-legged, so I also added some navy tights and boots.

Today was a bit warmer, so I risked going out without the tights (and mostly didn't regret it!). This citron color isn't the most flattering on me, but it's such a fun and eye-catching piece that I love it anyway. But I tend to only wear it over white/grey because it seems too much over anything else. Does anyone have suggestions for what other colors I can pair it with?

So cute! Love the jacket too. Honestly, I think citron/yellow is one of those colors that works with almost everything if the proportions are right. Try it on with a bunch of outfits you wouldn't normally wear with it. Take some pics. I bet several will jump out at you as great combos.

Thanks Carter! That probably is what I need to do, just need to find the time. I like the idea of wearing it with navy, might have to try it out. And then post here to see what works.

You look wonderful in your dresses. I agree with Carter that the citron jacket can be worn with almost anything. If you want to subdue the color, any shade of grey, olive, navy, rust, browns and denim. You could wear it with your chambray dress. I think of white and black as brights. The citron jacket would look great over a black and white outfit. I think someone posted that combination recently and it was so fab.

Joy, thanks for the suggestions! I like the idea of wearing it with olive or chambray. I was a bit afraid black is too high contrast, but I will give it a try.

If you want the citron to appear less bright, pair it with other colours close to it on the colour wheel. We see colours differently depending on what they're close to, isn't that fascinating? So perhaps in this case try some peach (or full on orange if you're up to it) or the warmer greens (if you have any)? Of course, my first thought was navy, but that will definitely make the citron pop!
