WIW - Cirque du Soleil & Les Mis

I'm feeling very cultured this weekend! My husband bought me tickets to Cirque du Suleil for Christmas and the show was last night. We had a FABULOUS dinner at Daniel's Broiler, a great steakhouse, and the show, Amaluna, is based on my favorite Shakespearean play, The Tempest. The costumes were stunning, the acts were amazing and I absolutely loved it!

Today, I'm meeting some girlfriends for the movie Les Miserables and wine and snacks after. Fun weekend!

#1 - What I wore to Cirque. Normally I'd like to dress up more for a show, but the big top is set up in a local park and there's quite a bit of gravel and grass from the parking lot to the tents, so I kept it easy. It is a circus after all! Leather jacket, gold chain print blouse, skinny jeans, tall black boots. A black patent clutch to help dress it up a bit.

#2 - What I'm wearing today. Give it to me straight, ladies - does this work? I have just had the hardest time styling these booties! I'm wearing them here with my slouchy BFs tucked in and a white button up under a striped tee.

All comments, ideas, suggestions for improvement welcome! I'm off to the movie! I'll touch base later.

It's always such a treat to see your WIWs, Christy! Both outfits are wonderful! I love the cognac leather jacket paired with that beautiful blouse in outfit 1, and what a fun bag! And I think your red booties look brilliant with the BF jeans tucked. A white shirt with a striped top is one of my favourite looks, and it always looks great with red.

Have fun at the movies today! (Cirque du Soleil sounds amazing)

Yes, always a treat, Christy:-), love them both, first one is quite different for me- as you paires 2 different colors of leather, cognac with bright/patent blacks-and it works so beautiful! Thanx for posting! How fun to see a performance with Cirque the Soleil!

2, I think you need a skinny jean for those boots. The jeans are bunching out of the top of the boots which just doesn't feel right. Otherwise the outfit rocks

Love #1 -- fun idea to wear pearls to dress things up, and your bag is amazing! I also love the boots. What are they? Are they the same ones you wore in that great outfit the other day with pants tucked in?

The movie outfit is fresh and fun, too. Love the red and glad to see you trotting out those boots at last!

Sounds like a wonderful weekend, Christy! The look in #1 is impeccable and rich. It's special and luxe, but still suitable for the "big top tent" setting.

I adore the red boots in #2. I'm starting to like slouchy tucking into boots -- I think you could go even more slouchy here if you wanted, although that's not typically "you." I think the striped top might lay better if it were a little more substantial -- less stretch, more weight, perhaps, but I'm being insanely picky.

I also get ideas from your posts --- gotta find ways to mix cognac and black!

We saw Cirque last week! Wasn't the balancing of the organic twigs amazing? And the contortionist in the white bikini sublime? And the bald juggler with the tail! And the light blue fairy in the sky

Although nothing quite compares to O in Vegas.

Jayne - I do think a skinny jean is a good idea! I was trying for the slouchier look here and I'm just not quite sure it's "me", but it was fun to give it a shot.

Suz - Yes, those are the boots I wore in the outfit the other day with the denim jacket. You are so good at noticing details! They are Paul Green. I got them last year and wear them quite a bit. Really comfortable and I like that I have the option of a dressier boot with a low heel that I can dress up and down. They seem to work equally well with jeans as they do with skirts and dresses.

jen - you're right! This is a Michael Kors clutch.

Shevia - thanks for the kind words about my casual style. I'm starting to feel more confident with it.

Angie - Cirque was AMAZING. The peacock costumes were spectacular, weren't they? The contortionist in the white bikini really was spectacular. And the pole routine (I don't know what else to call it, but that doesn't sound very good does it?!) that the male love interest performed was stunning. I couldn't believe the way he climbed up that pole as effortlessly as if he was walking down the street. I also loved the incoming "storm" routine. I've never been to Vegas but O would be the first show that I'll see when I do!

Book yourself tickets to see O in Vegas. It will blow your mind

I was in Vegas two weeks ago and we saw the Cirque too, it was amazing. We saw Love, because I adore the Beatles. So glad you had a fantastic time!

You look fabulous in both of these Christy! I especially like the slouchy BF's tucked into those boots, I think the new-ish silhouette looks wonderful on you. What brand/style are those jeans in pic #2? I'm looking for some new BF jeans with a slightly darker wash, and yours look amazing.

Meanwhile, it sure sounds like a fun weekend. Speaking of Cirque de Soleil - I just have to give a big "second" to Angie's insistence that you try to see "O" at the Bellagio in Las Vegas someday. Nothing compares. "O" was my first Vegas show, and then later on, I saw "Love" at the Mirage, and "O" is impossible to beat. It's a must see...(totally agreeing with Angie here). If you're ever in Vegas - go for a light early-ish dinner, then drop into the Hyde bar at the Bellagio, overlooking the fountains - have glass of wine outside on the patio while you enjoy the fountain show (preferably at sunset). Then head over to see "O" ...you won't regret it!

Casual chic and stunning! Love both outfits, and the boots look extra fab as you have styled them. I have a newish pair of moto boots that have taken a little getting used to, I love the redish color of yours and look forward to seeing more ways you style them!

Christy, both outfits are amazing but #2 is just too fab for words. I am so in love with tucking sloucy BF's into boots.

VC - these are the Target "Skinny Boyfriend" jean. I got them last year - they are too short to wear full length, but they are really comfortable. They were a cheap way for me to try out the BF jean trend! I haven't worn them much since the fall, but wore the heck out of them last summer.

I think both outfits are great! I love the red bag and boots combo. If it were me I'd probably wear the boots cuffed.
