WIW - casual, black dress (again), frumpy?

Here are three very different outfits.

#1/2 - Wore this for a hospital tour on Saturday. I have different insurance now than when the other two were born and will have to deliver at a different hospital. I don't like surprises so wanted to take the free tour the hospital offers of the maternity floors before I'm there to deliver.

#3/4 - Denim skirt and red shirt. This seems borderline frumpy to me. Maybe a scarf would have added some interest with texture and pattern but it was really hot and humid (or what is considered humid for around here) that day.

#5/6/7 - Black dress again with purple accessories this time. The shoes are eggplant but don't show up well so I tried to take another photo of them.

You look radiant and beautiful, Sara, in each outfit. Nothing frumpy about 2, but maybe it's just the proportion of the top length and skirt that's bothersome. Hope you are happy with the new hospital and wish you all the best!

I have clearly been away too long! Congratulations Sara! I had those purple wedges but had to give them to a new owner b/c my feet are really wide and they were uncomfortable after 1 wear. I love the bright colors and the wrap dress. Darling!

And big YES for wearing that dress in yet another way. You actually inspired me to pull the trigger and buy the jersey black dress this summer and I've already been wearing it a lot.

I don't think 2 is frumpy, I think it is a proportion thing, or the volume on top with the A-line skirt volume?

You don't look frumpy. I like 3/4, love that color combo and simplicity.
BTW- Have you ever gone to your posts and then change to tile view. Your posts look really good this way. You see all your glorious WIW post (main picture) lined up and they all look really good.

If you're like me you just got used to the tummy hugging styles like 1/2 which make 3/4 look more traditional maybe? But you look great in all three!!

Carole - the new hospital seems very similar to the Women's Hospital where I delivered the first two. Only difference is that if flu season starts before I deliver than no children are allowed on the maternity floors. I'll be disappointed if my boys can't visit since they're both so excited to have a baby brother. It will be close since my due date is Oct. 19 and flu season usually starts in October.

Ornella - I think the dress will be even more versatile in the cooler months when jackets, sweater, tights and boots/booties can really change it up. It's so hot right now that changing a necklace or shoes is all that's really possible.

Ceit - I think you may be right and it's the proportions that feel off. Not much that can be done about that right now

Tracina - I'd never tried looking at my posts with the tile view. So interesting and I look more pulled together when viewed together than I expected. Also I remind myself of a line from the Dr. Seuss book the Lorax - "biggering and BIGGERING and BIGGERING".

AviaMariah - yes, the red top is more traditional. The loose cotton is nice and cool though so I occasionally like to wear the non-tummy-hugging styles.

Smart move to tour ahead of time, and those shorts are a fun print. #2 is classic, maybe too classic for your evolving style? #3, pretty plum color shoes!

Ok, that black dress is a worker. The wedges are gorgeous and perfect with it.

#3/4 is not frumpy at all. Really good. I was all set to choose that as my fave of the three, but I have to acknowledge the power of the LBD.

#1/2, I admit to feeling the ruffles and sandals compete... and that I wouldn't want my feet so bare in a hospital. A little neuroses there... ;>

#1 is super-cute! And that black dress fits you beautifully. And I agree with Carole on #3- nothing frumpy, just the proportions are such.

Sarah, the blue top is a marvellous cut and colour on you and you look good as always in black.
However I do hear you on the red shirt outfit where I think the shirt, not the skirt, is the key.
The cut or the fabric is such that the bodice does not sit nicely across your bust, in contrast to the other outfits.
I also think the red of this shirt is a little harsh against your skin, once again in complete contrast to the other outfits where you look so vivacious.

Amazing how wonderful you keep looking at this stage. Love the first and third outfit. (Unfortunately I agree with your own comment on 3/4.. sorry).
And the shoes are so, so pretty. Can you still walk on high heels? Wedges OK, but still high.
