WIW - Broke out the sperry topsiders

I haven't been around much lately. I am working on the new house project and just had the Master ensuite and WIC finalized when I went to a show home with an amazing kitchen. Needless to say, the planned kitchen in the new home was revised. It went from an L shape with a corner pantry and angled island to a U shape with both an island with overhang for stools and a breakfast bar between on the peninsula between the kitchen and dinette. I decided on white cabs for the kitchen and dark maple for the island. I am deciding on the countertops. I considered using lighter granite on the island with the dark maple and the darker one on the counter and bar extension. Opinions welcome.

I met friends for lunch and wore my sperry topsiders in pewter and took the first of my new Matt & Nat bags in yellow. I decided to broaden my horizons and introduce a bit of yellow in a cautious way.

I have a dark granite on most of my counter tops and actually wood on the others. I thought it was cool and in at the time, But I regret now not doing it all the same. Spanner, sorry.

I love the darker granite you have posted - beautiful! I agree with Jayne though about doing the granite all the same. Sounds like your house is really coming along - how exciting!

Our new kitchen has white cabinets too and I went with a deep blue granite-look countertop (afraid I'd smash my china on real granite). Anyway I really appreciate the dark to contrast with all the white. And since DH was afraid too much white would be "blinding" and I hate the smeary look of stainless steel in real life, he had the appliances powder-coated in a deep blue by someone who does car finishes. Can I say how hard it is to find anything in blue ?

FWIW - we just renovated our kitchen and made the mistake of using black granite for the countertops. Which looks amazing when it's sparkling clean and and takes all of about 5 seconds when actually being used to look messy and streaky. That said, the dark one you've chosen looks like it has enough variation that will be very forgiving. If you have some samples I'd suggest giving it a swipe with a damp cloth to make sure it doesn't show streaks from a basic wipe down. It all sounds beautiful!
