Or when is a lot of bright too much bright? LOL!

Debuting the last of my new sweaters. I am not entirely sure about leaving a V-neck unbuttoned because the line down the front isn't as good but I find the continuous line of black was necessary to keep the brights in balance. That big chunk of blue in the middle just seemed like too much for me.

Grey day out there - perfect time for the brights! My apologies for the blurriness of the second photo: one camera captures colour well, but doesn't compensate well for shaky hands, and the other is the opposite.

JR, you look great in cobalt blue! I like the pretty colors you're adding to your wardrobe.

I like the blue cardigan and the yellow scarf, but I'm not so crazy about the red tights. I think the outfit would be better with black tights. If you wanted to add some interest they could be textured ones.

The cardigan looks great unbuttoned! I think it actually gives much MORE of a nice vertical line that way. Squint your eyes and look at your photo, and you'll notice the nice narrow strip of black down the middle that is very flattering and lengthening. When you button the cardigan it chops that up and shortens and broadens your silhouette.

Sorry I didn't express myself clearly. What I meant was the V-neck issue. If it were a round-neck cardigan it would create a straighter line down the front. I am definitely wearing it unbuttoned because I agree with you: the line of black down the front is pretty well necessary to make this outfit work, at least on me.

So one vote in favour of too much bright. ;o) I hope everybody chimes in honestly, so I can assess if this outfit should go out the door as-is or not.

Love the cardigan unbuttoned for the reasons mentioned above and I adore you in that cobalt colour - beautiful with your complexion and hair colour.

I actually like the red tights and I like the yellow scarf too - but I find both are too much. One or the other would be perfect!

I'm with Shannon - pick 2 out of 3. I like the yellow scarf because it's right next to the sweater, near your face and goes great with the blue.

I love all the colours individually but still getting my head around them all together - love the cobalt cardi and red tights to my eye needs a pattern to link all the brights - but hey take it with a pinch of salt as I'm not very adventurous.

A bit disjointed to me with the three colours. I do believe I'd like it for myself if the tights and cardigan matched but I'm matchy matchy and subtle.

I like the cobalt blue just lovely here. I don't mind brights but for myself I'd stick to keeping them all on the upper or all on the lower half. Here the dress creates a lot of space in between and sort of cuts off the bright colors a tad. I'd keep the scarf and loose the colored hose here.

I agree about the colors -- the fact that they're all pure primary colors makes it a little tough too. I'd go for the blue and yellow with the black, and replace the red tights with non-opaque black patterned tights or something like that. I love the blue and yellow on you, though!

Hooray for embracing color! The primary colors are a wee bit off all together, but I think it would look amazing with tonal colors.

Agree with the other ladies, though I LOVE that you are suddenly color-ific! I am so cardi-impaired these days, I wish I had some advice there.

I have a confession to make. I went out dressed like this anyway. However, let me say in my defence that I was wearing tall boots which covered most of the red, and a coat which covered all of the blue. Black hat, black boots, white coat, white gloves, so as not to add to the overload. I was just enjoying my colours too much, and it was like my private little secret... LOL!

But your objections have been duly noted, and I will probably not repeat this particular combination again. Unless I'm feeling particularly naughty and colour-deprived. And I will definitely never wear it out with hubby. If you guys found it too much, he would probably die...

The unbuttoned cardigan + dress combo I love, though! I almost bought a cardigan that colour...

I love the idea of this. I actually love all of the colors. I think maybe stick with 2 instead of 3 though. Fun!

I personally love it, all three primaries together, but I gladly dress like a kindergarden teacher so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask.

Um, I may again be the wrong person to comment as I've started wearing several primaries together too---but I'm in the minority of LOVING the red tights with this and not so much the yellow scarf. I figure the lovely blue is already doing enough to highlight your face, especially with the lines of the cardigan arrowing upwards, without that addition.

It's lovely to see you and colors! You look terrific in cobalt blue, and I love, love, love the yellow scarf with the cobalt blue cardigan. Like most of the others, it's the red tights that I'm wondering about; there is also a big part of me that is also craving some pattern in this outfit...

I'm wondering if you're up for swapping out the red tights with subtly patterned black or blue tights (a lace pattern or micro fishnets might work). I'd also be tempted to try black micro fishnets over a dark blue pair of tights.

Blue looks SO lovely on you.

Leaving aside the colour question, I was interested in your comment about the V sweater open not giving you the line you like. I sometimes feel this too about myself. In fact, I recently passed a boxy V neck along for precisely that reason.

I love you in the cobalt. Hey - does it work with your cobalt jeans?

Interesting thought about adding some pattern to this. I don't have any patterned tights (up until recently I rarely wore skirts) but I'll keep my eyes open.

This is not a dress, by the way. I don't have any dresses, as the fit issues drive me nuts. This is my equivalent of a LBD, a straight black skirt with a black top. Does pretty much the same job.

Suz, the two blues are actually quite different. One tilts toward royal blue, the other toward teal. On the other hand, I find that different shades of blue will often work together very well, so I will probably try combining the two one of these days and ask for forum input. Unless I don't like it all on my own.

I have absolutely no idea why some over-the-top things, like this box of crayons, I find very appealing, while others make me uncomfortable. I would never colour block with orange and pink, for example. Patterned tights, unless the pattern is very subtle and fine, I am also uncomfortable with. I have no rational explanation for this.

I am glad to see though, that I am not the only one who enjoyed the combination. And honestly, I did.
