WIW - black is practical

Here's what I wore today. I met up with some friends to eat fajitas and we went to see Cosmo Jarvis in concert afterwards. It was fairly cold outside, but I knew it would be warm indoors so I had to compromise. And I took my bigger bag so that I could put my denim jacket into it. I normally don't wear that much black, but it's really practical for occasions like this. The tights are new btw, I love them. I also got them in blue, but they fit so great I'm thinking of duplicating the grey ones for fall.

Thoughts?

You look great. This is quite a bit of black, but it's not overwhelming or harsh because you've given doses of lightness with the shoes, bag, jacket and scarf. The black is a perfect backdrop. I'm trying to learn how to reintroduce black back into my wardrobe without letting it take over and this outfit of yours is a great inspiration for that.

Super! I like the crossbody strap with your shoes. Those and the scarf lighten things up. Hope you had fun!

Another one who loves black here! I think it really shows off your lovely skin and hair. Have you ever tried black patterned tights? Just an idea, not a solution because this outfit is great and worth repeating. Just another way to take this look.

Thanks Traci! I've tried not to buy new black items and I have much less black in my wardrobe than I used to. But I still want to wear the black things I kept! I'm glad that this was successful. I'm not wearing this black shirt much on its own, most of the time it gets layered under my plaid dress in winter.

Thanks Suz! Yes, it was so much fun. We often go to concerts of relatively unknown artists, because it is cheap and amazing most of the time. Small location with a hundred people or so and the music is always great because these people aren't some product of a record label.

Thanks Denise! I've worn black patterned tights a lot, but my favourite ones (polka dots and argyle) had to be thrown out recently. I will have a look for replacements soon. I like to wear them with my black boots. I'd also like something like the floral ones below, but I haven't seen anything similar yet.

I look awful in black -I TRULY do, unless I put on some blingy blingy earrings or something- but you look great! The blue scarf is a nice touch

Thanks Irene! I don't look good in (solid) black either, that's why I'm wearing that blue scarf... It only looks that nice in the picture because of the flash!

Harmonica, you where in Berlin? Awesome! That's really interesting that you seem to see some local influences. I don't see it, but then I don't see it from your perspective. Can you define it?

I spent 3 days in Berlin - mostly Mitte and Kreutzberg, visiting museums and galleries the "Friedrich room" at top of the old national gallery was .... amazing!!! WOW!

I havn't been travelling that much, but I see a very different vibe going on in Berlin than NYC. Far more casual, lots of denim shorts+tights, second hand, minimalism and rough elements, a bit of the 1990's with doc's, plaid shirt and jeans, urban spirit, flat shoes like oxfords and doc's - that's what pops in my mind. Very little high class and french chic, more grounded in a way. But maybe we were in the wrong areas (almost no shopping, no KaDeWe or west Berlin) to see the expensive side of Berlin fashion

And the vibe was really, really relaxed! Amazing as this is such a big city

I haven't seen the old national gallery yet, and I even have an annual ticket! Shame one me. I promise I'm going to visit it this fall.

Yes, I can see what you say about the style. Although Mitte and Kreuzberg have probably a few more hipsters than other areas. I definitely agree about the relaxed vibe going on, grounded is a good term actually. Although there is some french chic (and so on) out there for sure, it's not prevalent when you walk the streets.
