WIW - and wide leg trousers - YouLookFab Forum

I bought a pair of AT wide leg chino trousers on super-duper clearance. How could I pass them by? Especially in a 12 tall? In store? Unheard of!

I usually do a long-over-lean style - this is diffeeent enough that I could use some advice on making this wide leg style work for me.

I am an accounting consultant, so my style goals are Confident, Smart, Approachable.

Photos 1, 2, 3 are my Casual Business wear uniforms - cardigan or tunic, scarf, slim pants, boots or clogs. Photo 4 is my first attempt at styling the trousers: white shirt, scarf tied to resemble a gentleman's necktie, long cardi, clogs.

My waist has been MIA since, oh, 2010, so the illusion of waist definition is usually what I aim for.

My closet is a collection of basics and I use accessories to give them flavor.

What do you think? Is there hope for this style to work for me? What am I missing? There’s just something a little off that I can’t quite pull my finger on...

Of course you had to buy them! This tall woman totally gets it. I’ve been studying your pictures, especially #1 and #4, which are quite similar. I agree that something about #1 seems to work a bit better, but I’m not quite sure why. Perhaps if you tied the scarf in #4 the way it’s tied in #1? Or wore #4 with a longer shirt or sweater, such as in #3?

I also wanted to say how well you achieve your three Style Goals in your outfits: you look confident, smart, and approachable in all of them!

I think the pants in 4 are great and I don’t see anything off about them

I wonder if you could try the look without a long cardigan, it would be more of a “lean over long” look.

I think the cardi in pic 1 may be worth trying with the pants in pic 4? I'm a long over lean fan as well.

My eye hasn't adjusted to wide leg pants yet but I do think these look good on you. I'd love to see them with a shorter, more fitted top. Love your scarf looks.

Thanks so much for all your comments! Windchime - its a good day when we can find trousers long enough, right?! Smittie - I think you're right about he cardi I wore, but I'm pretty self conscious about exposing my waistline. You'd think I should be over that by now. Jenni - good idea - the cardi in #1 is shaped a bit so I'll give it a try. Shevia, Cardiff, Cat, Katerina, Kate - thank you so much for the kind words. Sometimes I over-think the color palette, and I wish I loved bright colors the way that Angie does, but it just isn't my thing. Robin F- I think you're on to something re: shorter, fitted on top. Keeping my eyes peeled for something like that. Angie - it's a different feel, though, right? It's getting used to trousers that swoosh rather than touch my legs.

And just for the record, I found a picture of myself taken in the 70's - guess what I was wearing? Yep, groovy wide leg chinos!! And platforms!! (even at 5'10" . . .)

I like all of your outfits but #4 is my favourite. You do have a waist and it looks really good in #4. You look smart, professional and approachable, so you style matches your descriptors. You look very authentic too, this is not a uniform, but reflects who you are. Your scarves really add personality into your clothing and I love the colours you have chosen, classic but not boring.
