Help! My new olive jeans arrived in the mail today - I've been stalking them on Ebay to replace a beloved pair that met their demise on vacation in January. I wanted to get a wear in to check them out before taking them to the tailor to be properly hemmed, so I grabbed a favorite olive blouse and thought - column of color - that should look ok, right?

Oh, sad - The look is too "drab" I'm afraid. Help me analyze what is wrong? Maybe the column of color requires a livelier color? Maybe it's not for me. I know the standard answer would be to add a scarf, but I don't wear scarves - they flip and flop around and I spill things on them. It was too warm for a sweater or jacket.

More than two pieces in a single color can be overpowering sometimes. Try a black top instead.

ok, i'm probably the wrong person to help you, as i love a column of color...i have found that column of color outfits are really helped by mixing different textures to add visual interest.
you may want to try a different pair of shoes, you wouldn't have the full column of color, but it would still have the the most of the column effect

Great jeans! I'm a big fan of olive green and have a fair bit of it in my wardrobe. With your dark colouring, I would try a clear bright like cobalt or fuchsia with the jeans. Cream is an obvious choice too.

It's so hard to blend olives and you've done great. It's a great canvas for a special piece of jewelry. Just one thing would punch it up: maybe a bracelet? or a pendant? earrings?

Olive is one of my favorite colors. I think the column of color looks fine. What about a scarf?

Great jeans. I'm with Lisa - try a white, cream, navy, ink, black, coral or shocking pink top with the jeans.

chewyspag, black is a good suggestion. I tend to forget about it when the weather turns warmer.
lisap and angie, thanks for the pro tips. I'm not a fuchsia wearer, but the coral, cream and blue options all sound appealing and I have most of them in my closet
kkards, you are right about texture - if the top was a knobby knit, there would be a lot more interest.
Jaileen, scarves just aren't my thing. Maybe a bolder necklace would help, as rambling ann suggested.

I like the column of colour, I love olive. Maybe a jewellery item would help. Otherwise, I'd wear a black top and maybe black boots with the awesome new jeans. That would look good with your hair x

Your jeans fit beautifully and are a great colour. I love olive with ivory or blush. Adding lighter accessories - an ivory bag and shoes, would also add some freshness to the column of olive. This is such a great base for a statement piece to be added.

This is highlighting for me how much I would like an opaque casual ivory silk top - a hard combo to find. I have a great "business-y one, and may try it with these jeans, but must admit i am preferring looser and easier tops over close fitting pants these days.

Hi Ryce -- I meant to comment earlier, but got waylaid. I really like your ensemble just as you presented it in your original post. After reading the comments I did think to myself that those pants would be stellar with white, cream or pink (especially pink)! Your silhouette of close fitting pants worn with looser and easier tops sounds perfect to me. Yay for you.

I like it as is, the pieces individually are all great, but a lift would take it from good to great. Maybe a coral lipstick, light shoes, a bold necklace or cuff, and I agree the jeans will look good with a light or bright shirt.

I like olive but it does not love me (unless it is warm and bright), and I cannot wear it with black. I love it with cream/warm white or something in the pink/red/purple group of colours.
