WIW - A skirt! In Winter! - YouLookFab Forum

Yes, I am wearing a skirt in winter. It was 26 degrees this morning, so a veritable heat wave!

I am not sure the sweater works with my figure. It does not “smooth” over my curves. Also, it is a bit on the shorter side, so I don’t think it would work with trousers. Being able to only wear with flared skirts, and clearly a winter piece, makes this a borderline orphan. Open to thoughts before I put it in the charity pile.

I also wanted to add a pop of color to this, but I am finding my accessories terribly lacking. Something for me to consider adding to The List.

I took a picture with and without a belt. I originally was going to wear it without the belt, but added one at the last minute.

I like the sweater with the skirt and (I can't believe I'm saying this) I prefer with the belt (I usually don't like belts this way).

A pop of color would be nice but you look GREAT.

I wear skirts and dresses all the time in winter!! And you look great in this!
No problem at all with good weight thights, and a coat(even a longer puffer!)-and they show off some good boots, like yours, too:-).
I don't have a problem with your sweatter- what I see it shows a tin waist! but I would suggest to try some kind of pencil skirts, too- as they are IMO the most flaterring for a fuller figure!

I like the fact that you are wearing just oatmeal and black here,it is a very nonsense outfit that I truly appreciate.

That shirt does look a bit short to wear with pants. Did you try tucking it in the skirt?
I like the idea of a pencil skirt with it.

You are a very quick learning, Thistle. This outfit -- with belt and necklace is terrific in its proportions. Do you mind my asking how tall you are? I'm only 5'6", but I'm a tad long waisted and "endowed," so I often have trouble finding the perfect length in knits for pants and am considering trying "tall" cuts.

The belt gives a little needed structure which helps the knit stay in place. Pop of color? Great idea if you have it and it makes you happy, but not necessary here.

Awww, I love that flared skirt. I am definitely in need of one after seeing DCgirl yesterday and you today. Lovely outfit. A pop of color would be nice but hey, it works as is too. What about a bright handbag?

Beth Ann - I am 5 feet 5.5 inches tall. Yeah, I know, but a half inch counts, right?!? I don't wear heels at all, so I think that helps with pants.

Zap - A bright handbag is definately on The List. Right now, I only have 2 handbags total . . .

I "borrowed" MaryK's idea of belting (I saw it in a lot of her WiWs, really liked it, and thought it would work for me), and I picked up 5 or so belts from Ann Taylor this year. I do feel like this has been working for my figure.

I like the belt over the sweater and sometimes wear my belts like this too. I like the neutral color scheme and don't think a pop of color is necessary. Just a personal opinion though since I don't like too many colors in one outfit.

Thistle, you look great! I like it both ways, with a touch more preference for the outfit with the belt. I also like Celia's suggestion of tucking it in - you could try that and still add the belt or even a belt in another color at the waist. I think it would work in the proportions for you. I vote more skirts for you... more often!
