Happy New Year to everyone! Let's hope 2013 is better than ever!

This skirt has never seen light out of my closet (it's a hand-me-down) and I can count the number of times I've worn a skirt on one hand. However, my parents convinced me to dress up to visit family friends. I'm trying a semi-tuck (sort of) on the sweater to make it shorter for the skirt. It's also my first time doing that so please advise!

I like that you are giving the skirt ago - if you like it. If you don't, pass it on. Life is too short to wear things that don't make you happy

I think the skirt would look great with a denim shirt or denim jacket. Or a solid little form fitting pullover. Perhaps lighter hose would be best too. That way you'll create a lower contrast between your legs and the sheerness of the skirt and its lining.

Really liking the rugby striped pullover as an item. Fun with the turquoise. Kind of '80s which is probably why I am drawn to it!

I agree with Angie about lighter hose. I like the matchy matchy you've done with the turquoise shirt and belt.
Here's the thing...did you find it fun trying to make this skirt work? Are you excited reading Angie's advice to find other ways to wear it? Or does it all seem to exhausting? That's how you know for sure if it's time to pass a garment on.
FWIW, I think you look nice. Love the stripes!

Another vote for low contrast styling of this really pretty skirt! I think it'll be perfect for warmer weather.

I also think your combo of sweater, blouse and belt is stunning. This would be terrific paired with jeans, black or grey trousers or a pencil skirt in ponte or denim. A fuller lightweight denim skirt would be nice with this, too. Very J Crew!
