WIW - A copycat look with grey OTK boots

I was inspired by this Polyvore set for a casual black and grey goth look, and I have new grey boots. http://www.polyvore.com/kashual/set?id=55926893 So I smushed the two together. I do have grey jeggings I wear with them too, which are a bit more leg lengthening but I think stumpification is certainly not bad with the black either. Anyone disagree, and think these are terribly leg-shortening? (I promise I won't be offended. )

As a shout-out to whoever it was that posted that thread about how you feel totally awful in photos, yep, that's me right now. I feel that my entire body shape looks completely different than this in real life. Where did my waist go?

And since there was also a thread about winter WIWs being infrequently posted or all similar, here's part of the reason why. See that horrible artificial light, and the weird shadows, and off colors? Yep, that's the joy of it getting dark at 4:30 PM.

I love the stripes, the necklace, and the boots and think you look great. I leave the proportions questions to the experts!

I share your discomfort with photos but am working on it.

I really like how the grey of the boots plays off the grey in the sweater. While I cannot say for sure without seeing, I think I prefer black leggings/pants with the boots as opposed to grey. And I'm not seeing anything stumpy or off coloured or weird body shapes at all. You look great!

Although I do understand how people feel about their own photos. I was so excited and was going to post my very first WIW the other day, and then I looked at the pictures I had taken (with the timer on my camera). Ugh. SO disheartening that I didn't even want to try again. But it's a start that I at least tried! Now I just need to work on location/lighting, etc.

I think you look great! I love the boots and do not think they are "stumpifying" in the least (my spellcheck always wants to make it "stupefying" -- which they are, indeed, as in stupefyingly fantastic) and I love how they work with the sweater's stripes.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly about the difficulty of taking decent photos in this light. But not about your body shape, which looks terrific to me. We don't see your waist because the stripes disguise it when you are not in motion. Angle the body a bit and the whole outlook would be different!

@K - here you go. It's one of my favorite, and most-worn pieces.

Oh, and I wasn't so much tryng to complain about myself, specifically, more to reassure the other poster that we all probably feel similarly awkward about our own pictures, and I am determined to try more often to just grin and bare it.

Love it! Thanks for the eye candy posting FF! Where is it from? I have a bracelet that is almost a match for it--a friend brought it from India. It's really nice for adding that polished roughness to an outfit, just like your necklace does perfectly here. Really great.

What an awesome outfit! Love.

I find it tricky to balance showing the actual lines of the outfit with figure flattery, because it's so tempting to just stick a hand on my waist so I don't lose it in pics. And in regular life I'd angle my body instead of keeping it straight on, but for outfit pics that a bit like cheating.

Oh, and does your camera have a white balance adjustment option? That might help with colours! Although I think our eyes are pretty awesome at compensating for weird colours in pics.

I love the boots and striped top! Great look all around. I understand the weird lighting thing. I have one room in my apt that has great lighting, but its the bathroom with a tiny medicine cabinet mirror.

@ K - The necklace is Vera Wang from Kohls. I bought a similar bracelet too, also Vera Wang from Kohls. My only worry is over-wearing them, as they seem to go perfectly with everything.

@ E and Suz - funny you mentioned that, because in "regular" pictures I always stand at an angle, but I forced myself not to this time for the WIW. Honestly, I'm thinking for the sake of future happiness I will just stand in a way I find figure flattering next time, and people will just have to guess what my shirt looks like from straight on.

Since several people have said they don't find this leg shortening, I'm trying to analyze why it works. I'm thinking because I have broad shoulders and super skinny calves, bulk at the bottom helps add balance. I do tend to get that ice cream cone shape if I'm not careful. Maybe that means I should look at more boot cuts or wide legs for days when I don't wear boots/skinnies. Huh, certainly something to ponder.

Hi Florence, thanks for your positive feedback. Stumpification!!! I love it. Your sweater goes with my leggings btw. Black leggings are flattering and leg lengthening on most, particularly with heels. You look particularly leggy in this snap and pulling off the horizontal stripes with aplomb. You go girl!!!

There is no way that with your proportionately long legs and slim thighs this look could be stumpifying. I really like this outfit, I have my own version of this theme (booties instead of tall boots) -- comfortable and easy to put together.

I love the boots and don't think they look leg-shortening at all (and agree with CocoLion that you don't look like you have anything to worry about stumpification-wise). I also love how the whole outfit is simple and muted, but still with lots of interest.
