I've been struggling with how to incorporate bright colors into my mostly neutral wardrobe....

...so I decided to avoid the whole bright color dilemma by wearing a simple look with ivory and black to a party at DH's office tonight. It was warmish and sunny when I set out for the event, so I felt ok wearing the light jacket (which I usually use for spring/summer wear).

Bloomingdale's Aqua jacket
Lauren print dress
JCrew boots (bought about 10 years ago!)

I felt pretty happy with this look. Ivory/Eggshell is a good neutral for me.

Nancy I've just caught up with your other thread on the struggle you're having with colour. You've sidestepped that whole issue here very effectively. I empathise with the floundering feeling you describe, not that colour is my particular bete noire but sometimes I overthink things and break Angie's No 1 rule: Have fun with fashion.

You do look great in that outfit. It is interesting that some people are just not as comfortable in color and some don't feel right in neutral. You have to both feel good and look good in your clothes so why not just try adding small bits of color and see if it takes off. If not, then you have neutrals to fall back on since they look very good on you and you like them.

What Dianthus said is right. I don't know if it's worth it to force yourself to wear colors that make you feel uncomfortable. Feeling happy shines through one's style, as does feeling ill-at-ease.

I feel drab in mostly neutral outfits, even though they look ok on me. Brighter colors help me maintain a happier mood.

It seems to me that brighter colors make you feel garish and you are happier in your elegant neutrals. Perhaps start with small doses of color instead of entire outfits?

Nancy, I think we have the same boots (and I was just telling Thistle that they are the most amazing quality!). Do yours have a low heel and a back zipper? Mine are chocolate--yours look like they are the black, which I really really wish I'd bought too.

Your outfit looks gorgeous! Nothing like black and white or cream. So simple. So elegant. So perfect!

Thanks, everyone! I do need to remember to have fun with fashion. My tendency to overthink things can really get in the way of that.

K, these boots are black with a small heel and they zip on the sides (inside), so sounds like ours are different. I have this pair of tall ones and a shorter pair in chocolate brown. I bought them when I was freelancing from home so I didn't wear them too much, which is the main reason they've survived in such good shape!

You look great, Nancy! I feel like black and white/cream are almost always great FFBO options when we're feeling unsure about colors. I've been wearing a lot of neutral looks lately but have not been bored at all.
