WIW -- Havin' a Heat Wave - YouLookFab Forum

Well, I've managed to check in once a day or so and view and comment as I can. It seems like there's no flow to my summer yet, although there certainly is heat! Lots of heat, and one brand new central air unit in my car ($$) AND in my home ($$$$). At least now I'm not as shiny at home as I am in some of my photos!

1-3: Sunday mornin' goin' to meeting
I've been on a mini-spree this summer, buying up casual, but distinctive tops. This outfit incorporates one of these, and a new shirred cotton midi I got at a boutique.

Midi skirt: purchased from a boutique, a brand called "Wearables" The shirring makes it ever so comfy and adds detail.

Surplice, banded top: J. Lo for Kohl's. This is vanity sized, I'm wearing a medium here

Yellow bag: Nine & Co., from JCP. A little small and not the quality I'd like, but it was an experiment in colored bags

Shoes: Clearance sandals by Style & Co from Macy's These are a pretty comfy wedge

4/5 A/C on the blink! (See how I glisten)
Top: Liz Claiborne from JCP

Bermudas: Older, by Lee (and too high a rise, so no tucking)

Shoes: OLD b.o.c. sandals, with trendy turquoise toes. What do you think about black sandals for me? Are they a little stark, or bookending my brown hair?

6 -- Day at home. This is not my favorite, but I've been relying on "statement tops" this summer, so I thought I'd try neutral and simple. I usually wear a belt for more waist definition, but it was simply too hot. I'm not sure this is totally successful. Any suggestions?

Hi Beth Ann, good to see your pretty self posting a WIW. All stylish and no glistening observed! I know that brand Wearables, I have a few pieces from them. The midi was a great purchase, I can see it going with many things and being cool for the summer (it looks like cotton.)

Your top in #4 is super flattering, it would go well with the skirt in 1/2 as well. I think this outfit is my favorite of the lot. The sandals do not look old at all and look at your with turquoise toes, so fun!

As for #6, I think the white and chambray look very summery together. My only suggestion would be to try a pendant to echo the v neckline of the tee.

You look so great in #1/2. I really love the yellow bag. It doesn't seem to small to me. I think your expt is a success. #4/5 also look great. And I think #6 is just fine - a good cool summer outfit for a hot day.

First of all I have to say how I love you in this hairstyle! You look so beautiful with your hair pulled back. If you ever tire of your long hair I think a short haircut will suit you very well.
My favorite is #1 - WOW! This is a great silhouette on you - you look classy and chic. Great scores - both the skirt and the top!

Tanya: the polish color is "Ocean Breeze" by Revlon. It's supposedly "scented" to smell like an ocean breeze when dry. Wha? Like, who is going to pull their toes up to their face and sniff? But the color is fun.

#1 Is awesome! i love that skirt on you, and the top and shoes look great with it. I like #2 a lot too, very summery and cute. #3 to me is almost there. I agree that maybe a chunkier necklace or a bold pendant would punch it up and echo the boldness of the shoes. I like everything else about this, the tee and skirt fit you great and the sandals are very cool, the necklace just comes off a little delicate against the white tee and in contrast to the shoes. #3 is also a great candidate for a summer scarf instead of a necklace.

Thanks again for the input. I am indeed enjoying the return of midis. They seems to suit my figure and style. And I'm a bit shocked by the number of sandals (particularly wedges) that I've accumulated in the past couple of years. I live in Chicago, after all, and have far more sandals than boots! Still, I have a soft spot for summer shoes, and they're far easier on the pocket book than the boots I've got my eyes on!

Very glad to see you again after a long-ish hiatus. Hear you on the lifesaving superpowers of air-conditioning --- never mind shine, I tend to melt crossing the living room to get a snack from the kitchen! Happy you're no longer subjected to swelter in your own home!

And you wear the midi skirt silhouette really well. That's an awesome top; now I'm impatient to see the others!

Seconding Denise to try the second top with the skirt too --- they look made for each other.

For #3, I've been having the exact same issue with V-neck T-shirts (by far comfier than crew or polo in the heat) --- what to accessorise with? I think Denise has her finger on it --- the necklace needs to echo the neckline. So yes, a pendant, a medallion... I'm going to try that too! For the rest, it's the perfect summer at-home uniform, per moi.

#1 is very pretty! How are you liking the yellow bag? Do you find it coordinating with most of your summer wear? Since you show two tops with green in it, you could also go tonal and get a bright emerald or neutral olive bag.

I'm always drawn to yellow, yet my yellow pieces don't seem to be utilized much.

Outfit 2 is super cute! I thought those black sandals were new. Wear those pretties!
Incidentally, people spend big bucks at spas for that same "glistening" look. : P

Outfit 3 colorwise is not as exciting as the other two. I guess I'm used to seeing you in statement tops. : )

Since you wanted this to be simple, how about cuffing the sleeve a little, skipping the necklace, and wearing statement metallic earrings and some bracelets?

Congrats on the new A/C in home and auto. I couldn't survive here without those!

Beth Ann you gorgeous thing. The statement tops are both working for you. The skirt is very flattering and black/dark shoes bookend your dark hair very nicely in fact I really like all 3 pairs of sandals. The simple look in 6 Works well - the beads and sandles add just enough interest. I think a belt would be unnecessary and the accessories are just right.

Lovely looks, all of them! But those sandals in th nr. 1, and that top with the dark clams are just KILLER.

When I haven't posted for awhile, I always forget how helpful it can be. For example, I feared that the low pony or chignon I've been wearing to beat the heat is a little severe, but several of you liked it. As some of you know, wearing your hair up in a simple but sophisticated way is tricky in mid-life.

Also -- thanks for the help with accessorizing the plain T. I do think my summer style signature might be "statement tops," but I think I learn something every time I go a little more simple for awhile.

A.J. -- I am loving my yellow purse. Surprisingly, it goes with a lot, even though yellow is forbidden near my face. I wore it with look #2, for example.
