WIW --- Midwinter Remix - YouLookFab Forum

Seems like I was playing the part of Day Vies' twin, with:

WHBM peplum jacket --- buttons again after a little post-holiday weight loss. I belted it with a patent-leather belt for a little retro look and waist definition.

JLo trousers from Kohls. Same post-holiday trimming is causing these to go from PPL to floor grazing. A problem I'd like to see more of.

Hinge Blouse from Nordies last year --- MaryK inspired this purchase.

Black booties that ya can't see!

Close up of fancy-schmanzy earrings made from gold wire and antique buttoms. Nope. My hair's not really red -- just the flash. Feeling maximal today.

I was shooting for classic w/ a bit of 40's retro -- trying to avoid that corporate 90's feel. An open jacket (like DVs) would have allowed more color to show, but this jacket doesn't look nearly as nice open as closed.

Tuesday was extremely cold, so I pulled out a cozy boiled-wool jacket in a teal/black tweed. This has a great curved seam down the front and around the back, in addition to princess seaming, that is very hard to photograph.

I really like you in a black suit outfit. You look so trim, beautiful and powerful and the blouse adds just the right touch of color. I would not call this outfit maximum at all.
You do look like some pictures from your Pinterest board in it!
Your second look is lovely too, dark blue, black and grey color scheme is very sophisticated.

Thanks, Sveta. I did feel pretty powerful in the first look -- even more so because I was in heels. I'll have to say this look for mid-semester when my students need a little more motivation to practice. Let them think they're going to the bosses' office!

The first outfit has a retro classic 70s vibe and I love that. The other outfit is really sharp too. You can tell everything is thought out -- the colors, the proportions, every detail. These are the elements that makes the style gods sing!

I love you in this suit, Beth Ann, it's modern and a little retro at the same time, with a bit of glam thrown in = very elegant. Love the colourful blouse with it as well. I adore blue with black so outfit two is a winner in my book as well. I really like the subtle tone on tone pattern of your skirt here as well. And your earrings are beautiful.

The black suit looks so sophisticated and the happy colours of blouse keep it from going into too strict category. Those earrings are so pretty.

Love the belted jacket -- it does have the 40's profile. The belting creates the peplum shape. I think enough of the blouse shows through to give you the contrast you wanted. Looks lovely.

I like the teal with the gray and black skirt. The tones here are very similar so the teal becomes a really nice neutral next to the gray and black I love the shapes and proportions in your outfits. Great job!

Both outfits are 10/10!

While it's true that more of the colourful blouse would be nice, you did arrange it cleverly so some is still showing and it's a very refreshing hint of colour, avoiding, as you put it, the 90's corporate look. Wide pants and cinched waist give balance and height. It goes very well with your hairstyle too.

In the second outfit, the shiny/patent feel from the boots marry well with the skirt's funky print, giving the whole outfit a very lively, dynamic impression. This movement is echoed buy the beaded necklace on top. Well played!

The shilouette created in the suit outfit is amazing, your legs look about 5 miles long. I really love the close up showing those lovely earrings too. What a nice handcrafted piece. The skirt with boot is a very Beth Ann look too, I like the blue with the black here. ETA: I know you said this was teal black/ but it reads very dark cobalty on my monitor.

I remember Carson Piere Scott from years ago but didnt realize they were still around... or had been around since I know that skirt is 20 yrs old (?!) Gives me this flashback of walking into the store from the car with my mom, dont have any other parts of that memory but very happy!

Skirt outfit is fab too

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to give feedback! I've got a ways to go, but I seem to be better at remixing in my closet than I used to be. I have fewer orphans and more choices. My long range goal? Better quality, slightly fewer pieces. (neither my budget nor my closet is growing).

Sarah: Carson's is now own by the BonTon company. I used to avoid it's rather stale Department store vibe, but I've learned that they have some good deals and, if you're picky, you can find some great items. My red jeans came from Carson's, too. I'm getting a new Macy's nearby soon --- let's hope its a good one!

Cinnamon: This is actually a peplum blazer with a waist seam, so the belt actually just adds definintion, it doesn't have to corral the fabric. I think a mid-width belt is always easiest --- less likely to slide around. Also, I think belts have a harder time moving around on hourglasses -- more, um, natural barriers!

I think we posted at the same time. HAHAHAHAH!!

We did cross post, Angie! I'm thinking of trying to snag a pair of BR Monogram trousers -- the one's Sveta tapered. I think I might like them both wide legged and tapered.
